No prizes for guessing this location but much respect to all those who made it to this distant outpost of the UK network. For me personally I had travelled just under 500 miles to bag this shot via Kirkby Stephen, Kilmarnock and Glenwhilly from my home in Teignmouth. I was on a 1Z10 photo shoot and we were covering Aryshire, Glasgow,Crubenmoor and the Tyne Valley.
This shot shows the Airliner rail tour arriving at its destination on the outward leg. The tour was laid on by LSL Inter City and was led into Stranraer by Inter City liveried 47828. 20096 and 20107 were hitching a ride on the rear and would be top dogs on the homeward leg via Paisley,Mossend and south over Beattock.
The terminal here at Stranraer used to connect with the Sealink ferry to Belfast which now berths at a new terminal on the north side of the bay. The once busy yards are now quiet and the beautiful semaphores stand vigil over the terminus.
The 1Z62 0727 Crewe to Stranraer arrives.
