the same Lioness as the one posted for World Lion Day.
A young mother that just had her first litter of small cubs.
We found her when she was trying to find out where the main pride was. Lions are very social .
Before this shot she had been roaring to give the other adults of the pride an indication where she was.
A Lioness will wait to join the pride with her cubs until the cubs are somewhat older and more resilient. Until then she keep the cubs at a safe den site and leaves her den to hunt and to drink.

Image created from multiple exposures blended together in Photoshop CS6 layers using the "Lighten" blend mode. All exposures were taken with a single Einstein strobe with a 22" beauty dish attached to a boom arm. Processing: the mountain in the background was indeed there, but not visible at the time I took the main picture because of the snow falling. I used another mountain view. The tricky part was to add snow flakes to this part of the image. I picked some in the main pic and multiplied them.

Bird fleas, Ceratophyllus gallinae
Size: 2 mm
This is a studio stack of two (dead) bird fleas placed on a microscope slide. I didn't actually position them like this. I placed them on the slide encapsulated in drops of alcohol. However the drops got stuck together and as the alcohol evaporated the fleas were drawn closer to each other and eventually ended up in this configuration. I liked the symmetry so I decided to shoot them as they were :)
I collected these fleas while helping a friend emptying the bird houses at a local golf course (a procedure repeated each year in March). Please see the comment section for more images and info!

My first view of the Avenue of the Volcanoes at 6:52 am (a 4h58m climb) from the Refugio (Hut).
There are several volcanoes, but the most striking are the Chimborazo on your right (I will climb it tomorrow), the highest in the world and Cotopaxi, the second highest volcano in Ecuador (I climbed it in the first 24 hours).

Climbing an active volcano is complicated.
The crater is just below me. It took years for the Ecuadorian government to release climbing permits.

Tungurahua 5,023 metres (16,480 ft) is located in the Cordillera Oriental of the Andes of central Ecuador, 140 kilometres (87 mi) south of the capital Quito.
Nearby notable mountains are Chimborazo (6,310 metres (20,700 ft)) and El Altar (5,319 metres (17,451 ft)). It rises above the small thermal springs town of Baños de Agua Santa (1,800 metres (5,900 ft)) which is located at its foot 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) to the north.
Other nearby towns are Ambato (30 kilometres (19 mi) to the northwest), Baños and Riobamba (30 kilometres (19 mi) to the southwest).
Tungurahua is part of the Sangay National Park.
Somewhere in Western Australia: I really enjoyed the colours and I couldn`t stop taking pictures and pictures and pictures.....;-))) !

We went to see Hanami, the cherry blossoms at Hakone Gardens, a Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. It was an enchanting experience to walk at night below cherry trees in full blossom, and along other trees.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

The Indian Head Lighthouse is a Summerside historical landmark. Since arriving here, I have photographed it from a number of angles, but none of them seemed to be ideal. On this day, I found a new vantage point which enabled me to get this shot. I think it is possibly the best view thus far.
