About once a decade the area here is mown. The first time I saw it done I was about 5 or 6 and again at about 15 and it seemed so long since it was done. These events don't seem so far apart now....
Taken on a misty morning.
Yesterday was such a great day for clouds. From Los Angeles to the Nevada stateline all up I-15. I took over 90 pictures, landscapes with cool clouds, stopped maybe about 5 or 6 times, I didn't keep count. Ended up with 8 or 9 pictures I really liked, many of the others were very similar, so tried to pick the best from each stop. This cloud shot was taken at the last rest area on top of the mountain just before the long hill down to the Nevada stateline. I wasn't actually above the clouds, but they were about even with the altitude I was at.
Rhododendron blooms taken at the Ballarat Botanical Garden.
Do you know how to tell the difference between Rhododendron and Azaleas?
To tell them apart, first look at a flower—most azaleas have only 5 or 6 stamens, while most rhododendrons have 10 stamens.
Then look at a leaf—azalea leaves tend to be thinner, softer and more pointed than rhododendron leaves.
Other differences are: rhododendrons all are evergreen, while azaleas are either deciduous or evergreen; rhododendrons grow larger than azaleas and their blossoms and foliage also tend to be larger.
Nevertheless, the botanical taxonomists have put both rhododendrons and azaleas in the same genus, Rhododendron.
Confusing?
Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves...it is always appreciated.
Happy Friday
The Soviet submarine K-24 (B-124), yard number 511, is a maritime museum exhibit in Peenemünde under the f@ke name of "U-461".
The bright orange DSRV (deep-submergence rescue vehicle) mounted near the bow is a dummy as well.
K-24 is a projekt 651 submarine, NATO reporting name of this class was Juliett-class. The projekt 651 boats were the largest diesel-electric submarines ever build.
Primary armament were four SS-N-3 Shaddock (P-5 or P-6), or later the SS-N-12 Sandbox (P-500 4K-80 Basalt) nuclear-capable cruise missiles, main target were aircraft carrier battle groups.
Secondary armament were 6x 533 mm bow torpedo tubes with 18 torpedoes and 4x 400 mm stern torpedo tubes with 4 torpedoes.

Small purple glass beads in a 1" bottle. I found a little package with 5 or 6 bottles (they came with corks) in the Euro shop. I will definitely use them in the future. Not sure though what normal people would do with them :)
The tiny flower from our driveway, they just grow through the cracks and people step on them and weedkiller gets poured on them. But I think they are as beautiful as orchids.
Photographed along the Tieton River at Wild Rose Day Use Area, Yakima County, Washington. I was fortunate to find a family of 5 or 6 Warbling Vireo.
Left Los Angeles today and should be home for the weekend. I pulled off the road just before the scale house at the bottom of Cajon Pass for this picture. The California Highway Patrol had a car pulled over on the frontage road next to me, so I didn't stay parked for more than a few minutes. The air was clear and the clouds were great, so I couldn't resist taking a few pictures here. In fact, the clouds today were really nice all the way to Saint George, Utah. I ended up taking over 90 pictures today and stopped 5 or 6 times.
Earlier in the morning the sky was clear but later wispy clouds started moving from the west and by the time I arrived at this beach, they had moved over the ocean. This view looking east. Terrace Beach is only about 5 or 6 kms from the highway but an AWD or 4WD is recommended as it is a rough dirt track through the forest and takes about 15 minutes. There are many mounds to go over and about a metre (yard) high and 20 metres apart or closer as the hill goes down to the beach. A one lane track and I think the mounds are to stop erosion and to drain away the rain. Many potholes at the start of the track and it is very good to tighten up the stomach muscles! A dot on the horizon, if you can identify, is a sailboat. Located in the Beowa National Park on the Far South Coast NSW. (Formerly Ben Boyd National Park).
As a long haul trucker, I personally love these parts of the Country where you can drive without seeing another vehicle for 5 or 10 minutes at a time. It's very calming, a sense of peace and freedom, all stress is sucked away in the vacuum of open space. I took this shot off US-95 heading South, but a little North of Schurz Nevada. I cropped a little of the blue sky off and kinda wished I'd waited another second before taking the picture, rule of thirds stuff. Though of cropping the right side to comply with the rule but didn't want to give up the mountain on that side in the background. So, screw the rules.

Over the past 5 or 6 years I have posted many images from RHS Hyde Hall and now I’m going to post another series, this time called ‘A day in the Life’. As the title suggests I’m posting what I think are the best of that particular day. These are just some taken on 6th April 2017. They go back a couple of years, but there are many in the pipeline, as far back as 2014. This is the first of four postings and as you will see I got hooked up on Tulips this time.
Yellow lilies or Iris pseudacorus are native to Eurasia but are widespread throughout much of the world. These flowers have large, elongated petals that give them a bell-like appearance with 5 or 6 points and are of an intense color.

Hydrangeas is one of my favorite flowers, I planted 3 of them last year, this one is in bloom beautifully. This year, I'm planning to grow a lace-cap species, which is lovely as well. I don't know about you, to me, they're so gorgeous and would last the whole summer. There are about 5 or more species of them.
The colors of the flowers are decided by the soil of your garden, acid ( blue) or alkaline (pinkish).
Spirea, aka Spiraea, a member of the rose family. The flowers are tiny, but they have the characteristic 5 (or multiple of 5) petals, separate from each other.
Thanks for looking! Isn't God a great artist?
I pass by the wide spot on the road in rural Missouri known as Bona rather frequently because it’s on the way to Stockton Lake. We have a really old pontoon boat there, and best of all, my son’s family lives in the little town of Stockton. They have a speedboat, 5 or more canoes and kayaks, and 2 sailboats. And my 3 grandsons are there. Plus 2 cats and 2 dogs. Needless to say, it’s a lot of fun. When we pass this old forsaken place, I snap a photo or two and know that I’m about 20 minutes away from a great time.

Was out with Graham Stirling on his last shooting session for a while.
Earlier in the eve Grahams shot: www.flickr.com/photos/grahamstirling/5697860344/in/photos...
Breaking the rules with this shot, but it seems to work for me. As usual after a frustrating beginning as the ten stop is too dark but the Lee combo is too light I got some decent long exposures. Zoomed in without foreground to capture the castle which looking quite spooky with the mist. 50 seconds exposure at F14.
I need to find a 5 or 6 stop filter that will be good for sunsets before it gets darker. if anyone knows of something that would do please let me know.
Also viewed some of my images on Grahams monitor as he has it calibrated and was shocked to see how over saturated they were so toning mine down a bit.

That is bang up to date and I posted them because of an event I never thought would happen. I started photography in the early 1990's and it was my ambition to take one of these Long-tailed Tits. I have taken so many empty bushes and branches from all over the country where they have been scared away by Horses, Dogs, Cows, Walkers and all sundry Farm Traffic but Friday I took three images and one I'm very happy with. It doesn't take much to make my day. I know it's not the best image in the world, but for me well pleased with the result.
Its final days!
Colmanara Wildcat is an intergeneric hybrid consisting of miltonia, odontoglosum, and oncidium. It grows in a wide range of temperature conditions from warm to cool. The flower spikes emerge often twice per year and are colored in yellow, burgundy, and mahogany.
Light:
Low to medium. 1000-2000 footcandles. If this plant receives too much light the leaf tips will begin showing blackish spots. This is not abnormal for many intergeneric hybrids in the oncidiae group. Keep shadier in the summer and give it more light in the winter.
Humidity:
50% or higher is required. Humidity trays are helpful in maintaining proper humidity levels around the plants. Misting can be done in the morning as long as the plant leaves are dry by nightfall.
Water:
Use rain, reverse osmosis, or distilled water for best results. Water thoroughly being sure water is coming out all the drain holes of the pot. Water as the plant approaches dryness but do not allow it to become bone dry between watering. The pseudobulbs can be your guide. If the new pseudobulbs shrivel, this is a sign that you are not watering the plant enough.
Fertilizer:
If using rain, distilled or reverse osmosis water, use CalMag 15-5-15. If using municipal water with pH of 7.5 or lower, use GrowMore Ureafree 20-10-20. Use either at the rate of one teaspoon per gallon of water if fertilizing every third watering, or 1/2 teaspoon if fertilizing every watering. If fertilizing every watering, flush with clear water once a month.
I also highly recommend Green Jungle Orchid Food, especially formulated to work with rain, distilled, reverse osmosis water or water low in alkalinity. Fertilize with Green Jungle every time I water.
Flowering:
This plant can flower more than once per year. The spikes very often branch when mature and can have up to 50 or more flowers per spray.
Repotting:
Repot this plant in the spring to early summer months after flowering. Utilize a mix which drains quickly yet retains moisture evenly throughout. I recommend a medium grade bark mix using Douglas fir bark, charcoal, perlite, with the addition of poultry grade peat moss or coconut husk chips. Keep dry for the first week to 10 days after repotting.
About 5 or 6 weeks ago I drove out to the Isle of Grain to photograph this old tower battery on the recommendation of another Flickr photographer (thank you shrimperdan ). The attraction of the place is simple, it is virtually deserted of people and in the time of covid 19 social distancing it was the perfect escape for half a day. This tower was built in the 1850s when there was some tension between France and England and the English wanted to protect the mouth of the river that was the main artery into London. It was never used in anger at that time and was later converted to a more modern gun emplacement for service in both the first and second world wars. It was decommissioned in the 1950s and has been standing derelict since that time although interestingly it is privately owned. It can be reached on foot only at low tide and then only for a few hours before the tide comes back in.

not too sure really, it looked like it to me at first but after 5 or 10 minutes of this they walked side by side as if they were friends and then a few minutes later started chasing each other around again...we watched them for close on 40 minutes and each time I was wondering are they friends fooling around or male dominance display...

A tender and intense memory, from 4 years ago
she trembled to see her new world,
I was shaking to see such beauty for the first time..
she was a female, the most courageous and curious of the 5 or even 6..

I combined these images with Photoshop. There are 37 eastern warblers and of those who have distinct differences between male and female I am endeavoring to combine them into one image. I have about 5 or 6 more pair sets to complete which will require more field work in subsequent springs. A fun project which I hope will prove useful to many.
Lets face it, getting up at 5 or 6am in the hope of catching that perfect sun rise is not most peoples cup of tea. So an opportunity to capture the sunrise at an almost reasonable 8am is always a blessing. The Common again for this six image pano.
I have been lucky to see many morning Canada Geese takeoffs from the Thames River here in London Ontario.
Canada Geese takeoff in many different sized groups from let's say a group of 5 or a large group of 50 at one time.
One thing i have always noticed is that the geese give each group of takeoffs plenty of room so there is no interference or mid air collisions. Here is an example of two groups quite near each other. One higher and one lower group. Of course they have a built in guidance in their flight actions and safety prevailed in this photo !
Pushing on that trigger is like pulling magic into my very soul...Darrell.
Have a safe and fabulous day dear Flickr friends !
There is a fourth not pictured, there used to be 5 or 6, but one I suspect is happily galloping across the Rainbow Bridge. They are on Highway 6, NW of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
This scene reminds me of when we had field trips with the class and I was responsible for a small group of 5 or less students. I always had to count them to see if I had them all. lol

HISTORY
The Dublin Bay 21 Footers are the oldest class of racing yachts of their kind in the world – the World’s Oldest Cruiser Racer Class. Designed in 1902 by the leading yacht designer, Alfred Mylne of Glasgow, for Dublin Bay Sailing Club, seven were built between 1903 and 1908 and all seven still survive.
The Association is committed to the revival of the class and now for the first time since 1986, the Class will participate in the Dublin Bay Sailing Club racing programme of 2021. The boats will sail under the gaff rig designed by Alfred Mylne in 1918.
For a generation born in the digital age, beguiled by novelty and speed, the Dublin Bay Twentyones are a reminder of how beautiful a true sailing boat can be. The boats will provide an opportunity for present day sailors to experience the sailing characteristics of a truly authentic classic yacht. The boats will carry a crew of 5 or 6.
Stephen Morris and his crew in Kilrush have produced an outstanding example of authentic wooden boat restoration. Using Alfred Mylne’s original drawings, supplemented by construction details provided by Naval Architect, Paul Spooner, the traditional skills of the shipwright have been combined with the latest technical knowledge in timber conservation and construction methods. The use of laminated beams and frames and epoxy resins has resulted in stiff, water tight, low maintenance, monocoque hulls, without nails or screws, which allows the application of durable two pack polyurethane finishes. The original lead keels. iron tillers and fittings have been reused together with some of the original greenheart and pitch pine.
The first three restored 21’s Number 3 Estelle, 4 Garavogue and 6 Naneen will sail from Arklow on Friday 30th July to arrive at Dun Laoghaire at 17.00 where they will be met by the Dublin Bay Sailing Club flag-ship Mac Lir to a gun salute. There will be a sail past which will include classic one-designs; Glens, Howth 17’s, Mernaids and Wags. The arrival may be viewed from The East Pier Dun Laoghaire Harbour.
The 21’s will berth at the NYC at c 1800hrs Friday 30th when there will be a short welcome gathering. With Covid-19 restrictions we are limited to a strict 200 persons on the platform. Access to NYC card holding members and invited guests only. We look forward to the return of the historic Dublin Bay 21 Foot class that have been such a part of our club’s heritage.

Rubio are watching you
As my good friend Finn Frode says, I always fave, every time I see good photos of people that I am following. At date, I am following more than 200 people, and all of them, except 5 or 6, also following me.
I like good pictures, well framed, with sharpness, nice bokeh, low noise, colourful or B&W, ... When I take a photo and it does not satisfy those minimum quality requirements, I will never post it in my gallery. I just post good photos here, in flickr. However, there are many photos in my photostream with a few faves, a lot of them with scarcely 40 or 50 faves, and the most of them not faved by people I'm following. Almost all of my followers never fave my pictures, or they do it very seldom.
This photo will check this situation (and Rubio agrees, he is watching you). Will people that I am following fave in this nice portrait of Rubio?
Therefore, excuse me if I stop following you. Some faves will allow I follow you again.
Have a very good night !!!
Theme No.9 is Lightbox (#1) - I will post 5 or more photos I've taken using my DIY Lightbox.

Had not been to this spot for quite a while. The track in is quite rough and takes some time despite being about 5 or 6 kms from the highway. A 4WD or AWD is recommended. Also some steep steps down to the shore. I could not take photos from where I used to as the channel from the island to the mainland had water entering from both sides. I have never seen it this way and just another example of the change in shorelines since the recent wet years. Lennards Island in the Beowa National Park Far South Coast Eden NSW. After a several-month refurbishment, Old Number 3 moves out of the barn under its own power. I thought this was pretty much the end of my day of shooting, BW,TM.
They hooked up a bunch of cars to put a load on, then came back where several of us were standing around, and asked if anybody wanted to take a ride to Niles. Hell yeah!
But, the best (for me anyway) was yet to come. On the way back to the yard, they announced that they had room in the cab for 5 or 6 people, if anybody was interested. Guess who was fist in line. I got to ride in the cab of a steam locomotive for the first time in my life. It was hot, smoky, smelly, loud, crowded; and I was having the time of my life.
