Testing a new lens. This is the only image sharp enough to save (of about 5). I think I need a tripod or at least a monopod. Cropped to about a third of original size.

A brilliant display of northern lights happened over the weekend of Aug. 3rd and 4th 2022. We traveled a short distance away from Duluth MN to capture these on the morning of the 4th. Testing the smartphone capabilities on night exposures for these. It's a bit grainy, but they did turn out nice.

Day 4 of the 4th Test between England and India
View it a bit bigger
With a ticket for next summer's test match at The Oval secured. here is a shot from this year's match with India. England's all-time leading wicket taker James Anderson fends off a short-pitched delivery from Jasprit Bumrah during the final day of the 4th Test.

Day 3 of the 4th Test Match.
My dad first took me to watch a cricket match back in 1987. at the Oval. Some 29 years later I am still going to the Oval. This game was the 4th test betwen England and Pakistan. Younis Khan who is walking off with his helmet removed went on to score a double century. The four match series eries finished 2-2.

Airlander10 returns to its Cardington home after its 4th test flight, seen in the lovely orange-light of the setting sun.
One of the things that I have missed over the past couple of years is a day at a Test Match, so it was with some excitment and a bit of trepidation that I headed down to The Oval for the final day of the 4th test of the England versus India series. The sun shone, England collapsed, the crowd serenaded Jimmy Anderson and for a few short hours everything seemed right with the world... Bairstow b. Bumrah 0.
At the start of the 4th Test at Old Trafford between England and Australia, my coffee cup in the office gets a photo opportunity.
Two things to note:
1. This beaten up ball is what the Aussies' cricket ball will look like after the English openers have carted the Aussie quicks around the ground. (I wish).
2. The clown in the background looks a little like the English Captain Joe Root, putting on a disguise. Only joking Joe - you're a fine batsman.

These spectators got an upgrade at the 4th England vs. South Africa test match at Emirates Old Trafford. Its part of the service from the newly opened Hilton Garde Inn, with punters able to order drinks and room service while watching the cricket in comfort. Scanned in these old photographs (originally on film) and then stitched together for a panorama surprisingly it worked. Although the clouds looked threatening the ground was in glorious sunshine all day, the highlight of the day was when an imposter took to the field and everyone thought it was the next batsman he reached half way to the middle when the real Nasser Hussain emerged from the dressing room. The game itself was memorable as on the final day Mark Butcher single handed batted England to victory with 173 not out
Travis Head waits patiently for S. Smith to give him a go.
4th Test, Ashes 2019, Day 2, Old Trafford
Smith made 211.
Thursday 6th August 2015. In London a massive demonstration of old fashioned English democracy in action saw a strike bring the entire London Underground network to a stand. This resulted in some rather fine old buses helping out on the bus network. Whilst up at Trent Bridge the English cricket team were showing Australia how to play cricket, bowling the Australians out for 60 before lunch on the 1st day of the 4th test. The only thing that wasn't very English was the weather, it was lovely and sunny. Happy days.
Steve Smith celebrates passing 200* at Old Trafford. The Aussie batsman scored 211 and 82 in the game and proved to be the difference between the two sides.
During Australia's 1st innings Smith became the highest scorer in test cricket in calendar year 2019. Not bad when you consider that it was only his 3rd test of the year, having given every other batsman a 7 month start! By the end of the game he'd scored 671 runs at an average of 134.
After only 4 balls of Australia's 1st innings, opener David Warner is making the long walk back to the dressing room after a two-ball duck. Stuart Broad had once again got him early, this time from a thin edge to wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow.
The England team huddle together for last minute instructions, buoyed by their success at Headingley, as Australian openers Harris and Warner stride to the crease at Old Trafford on the first morning of the 4th Ashes test. The huge, temporary 'Party Stand' at Emirates Old Trafford holding over 8,000 spectators was already pretty full. On a cold and very windy September morning in Manchester it required a hardy English resolve to enjoy watching the cricket from the top of that stand.
Mitchell Starc gets clipped off the pads by Rory Burns during England's 1st innings at Old Trafford. Burns and England skipper Joe Root put on 141 runs for the 3rd wicket in a fine partnership. Sadly, they lasted only 4 balls between them in a disastrous start to England's 2nd innings.
At the start of Australia's 2nd innings it didn't take long for Stuart Broad to nail the hapless David Warner LBW. Just 6 balls this time.
When I'd bought my tickets for the 4th Ashes Test at Old Trafford all those months beforehand, I'd hoped to see Jimmy steaming in from the James Anderson End taking Aussie wickets for fun. Instead he managed to bowl only four overs in the series, with his troublesome calf strain, making things so much easier for our visitors.

After Australia lost a couple of early wickets, the crowd had the chance to see Jofra Archer renew his battle with Steve Smith, who returned to the team after concussion had forced him to rest out the 3rd test match at Headingley. Test fold.. actually it is weird to call it test fold, because it was my 4th test fold.. and it's far from a model that would satisfy me. I will definitely work more on it.
