Also known as the Golden Browed Bulbul, this is an endemic bird of South India and Sri Lanka. The bird is bright yellow and easy to identify in the bush and canopy where they are sighted. Apparently, this subspecies of the bird we shot in the Malabar region / Western Coast is a bit paler than the subspecies on the other coast - though I haven't seen it yet.
The birds are of the same size as other bulbuls - maybe 20 cms - and are found in small groups. We sighted several around fruiting trees such as wild berries, Figs and they were quite loud during the time. The calls were a tad easy to remember and just like other bulbuls they were noisy. This is the start of their breeding season and hence I think they were out more than usual.

A resident sparrow that apparently migrates from Kashmir to Gujarat during winters. This is a subspecies of the common House Sparrow and looks quite different to those that I see in my balcony everyday! I love sparrows and was so happy to see these.
I am not sure of the story about sparrows migrating, but there is very little information on these subspecies on the internet.

ESW65 seen moments before touchdown at a snowy London Luton airport after a direct flight from Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport (UBBB). The aircraft is painted in the national carriers lovely blue paint sheme.
A small finch endemic to the himalayan forests and to South Asia found in the Himalayas and parts of Myanmar. This is a small bird maybe around 12-14 cms and always seen in flocks. I think this is the female, the male is a bit more colorful - more yellow and less streaks. We sighted around 15+ foraging on the hillside next to a highway. I don't remember seeing any males, but the females were quite curious about us and landed at eye level. We were talking them when we saw them at eye level in front of us all of a sudden.
The birds are altitudinal migrants and move to lower altitudes during winters from around 2500-2700 m to about 1300 m in India. There are reports of them going down to about 300 m as well (not in India though). These prefer the montane forests and eat a variety of insects, seeds of pine, alder, thistle, daisies etc. They were foraging in the bushes on the slopes and as we walked around, the birds flew away to the top of a pine tree and perched there.

Conrail 6162 and 6211 are just starting to load train UAH-4K on the Koppel Secondary in Koppel, PA on August 24, 1994. We heard this train get authority to operate on the secondary and since I had never caught a train loading here, I had to catch it. I'm glad we did. The crew was super friendly and invited my wife and I into the cab. We stayed long enough to watch them load a few cars, took some pics of us in the engineers seat, then took off to see what else we could catch in the area.
