49st most interesting photo: thanks!

The clean train asassins Ven & Reas in action once again.

Wisk from LA also got down on this one with them. They got ballsy and went back to 49st on the N&R in Manhattan two times in a week to paint burners on clean trains. Ven & Reas made a point to be as random as possible when painting clean trains and part of the randomness was to paint in many different places regularly but once in awhile hit the same place twice in a short period to throw the Vandal Squad off in a loop. They could never figure Ven & Reas’s next move which is why they would stake Ven’s house out instead. Too bad for them he was never home. Someone had to keep graff alive on transit. Who had time for sleep!

R train painted by Ven, Reas & Wisk(LA) at 49st layup in midtown at around 3AM on a work weekday in early 1989. Ven , Reas & Wisk spent approximately 2 hours working on this right under the heart of Times Square. Reas painted a Berg piece on the middle panel and a T2B Vaughn Bode girl character on the left of the Ven piece. Wisk did a block letter piece on the right of the car. When they exited the layup they went to the Marriot hotel near 45st to wash up and get rid of the scrap cans of paint left over from the mission. Their plan after this was to re-enter the layup when the motorman arrived to pull it out at 5:30 AM with no paint , looking fresh & clean. The plan like so many other times before was to enter the back of the train with the train keys Ven had while the motorman charged the train 10 cars upfront.

This was quite the normal process for Ven catching flicks of their clean trains. He would hide in the second to last car motorman cab in the layup until the train pulled out and reached an outdoor station where he could catch photos of him and his boys work. Once the train would arrive outdoors Ven would pull the emergency cord on the train for photos. The plan however would not work this time. Somehow unknowingly in a short span of time the train pulled out of the layup while they were cleaning themselves up. In dismay Ven told Reas & Wisk he would venture out to Coney Island yard to see if it was in the yard there to be buffed. Reas & Wisk were not up to join Ven on this mission so Ven went on a solo hunt for photo's.

On Ven's venture out to CI he rode an N local train into Brooklyn. As the train Ven is on enters 45st station in Sunset Park he shockingly witnesses the train they just painted pulling into the other northbound track side of the station. In a state of dismay Ven barrels out in between cars and jump out on to the track bed. In a matter of seconds he crosses two express tracks and then attempts to climb in between cars of the painted train. At the very moment Ven is about to climb inside the train between cars the train starts pulling out. Ven almost get dragged to his death trying to climb in. Somehow in a severe moment of adrenalin and panic Ven manages to pull himself up in between cars as the train is pulling down the tracks. For Ven this is the closest to death he has ever put himself in his years as a writer.

Once Ven is inside the train he takes a short breather. This is where he then takes notice of another problem. For some reason on this night this train they painted was and R line train and not and N line train. The R train does not venture outdoors at any point in the system. The MTA switched the N & R to Astoria two years before. So this makes photographing this car properly a huge problem. So now Ven has to think of a strategy plan for photos quickly as he rides the train. Knowing the system extremely well Ven knows that at the same station in Manhattan(49st) where they painted this car is the only station on this line has no support beams on the platform which can block photographing the pieces. Ven proceeds to ride the train to 49st in Manhattan with passengers on board and all. As the train pulls into 49st station Ven scans the platform for police. Seeing no police on the station he lets the doors of the train close. At the very moment the train pulls out he pulls the emergency cord inside the train and quickly climbs out between cars onto the platform with all the train doors shut. Ven had to act super quick with photographing the car because the conductor saw him jump out and also heard the air brake go off. Surely the police would be called and there are plenty of police in this area.

He took several shots of the pieces and character on the entire car and immediately left the station.

This for sure is one of Ven's personal favorite cars he painted on the lines. He still is unhappy never to have caught outdoor shots. He often thinks he should of stayed with the train until they bought into the yard for buffing. Instead though he did not want to risk the chance of not getting photos at all, or having a run in with VS in the yard where it goes to get buffed. So this is what it is when it comes to photo's on this one.

These three years, when rushing home, sometimes I have been ambushed by a black mask kitten. He/she knew who were cat lovers in this town and he/she often begged me for a treat.

A year ago, I found an old lady to feed that kitten in my nearby, Yamato Park. I and my wife talked to her and we knew she had fed three times a day after losing a look-alike of this kitten.

And we became to know HIS name was Bucci.

According to her, Bucci came to Yamato Park five years ago from somewhere.

Yes! One of the successors of my dear Hatch and Cha in Heaven.

An old lady, Ms. N and we became friends.

And about half a month ago, she told to us, "I'm too old to continue to feed Bucci. I'll be so happy if you could welcome him as a family member."

The words bothered us because Cha was close to the end of life then and we always had been thinking only about Cha.

But after Shonanoka, a first seven days from Cha’s death, we finaly decided.

We thought Cha made a place for his successor.

I proudly introduce to the friends around the world.

Our heavy weight six-year-old boy.

The real successor of Hatch and Cha.

Bucci

(please pronounce like Gucci!)

Please to meet you!

Couldn't resist this shot...love the glazed brick ...green lights and the green shamrock....this pic barely beat out the more saturated version where the brick is so shiny and deep....but i am loving the desaturated HDR look that I have created on a few of my recent pics...

These were here last year too. Cool decoration near the corner of W 49St and 6th Ave in Manhattan
