Whilst the Hucknall to Heanor section of Amberline is continuing to operate as route number 34, sadly the Heanor to Derby leg is being axed. In order to keep Horsley Woodhouse on a bus route, Notts & Derby's 138 is being diverted to serve most of the village which will still offer a service to Heanor, but also opens up new opportunities the other way with it running to Belper.
490 is seen passing the Horsley Woodhouse speed limit signs with an Amberline to Hucknall via Heanor, Eastwood and Kimberley.

A partir de l'any 2008 els trens de la serie 490 arriben a Catalunya fent algun servei entre Barcelona i Alacant en substitució de material ARCO. Durant l'any 2013 es van retirar del servei al detectar fisures als bogies, i tot i tornar al servei durant el 2014 han estat definitivament apartades del servei. A la fotografia veiem un 490 circulant per Platja de Castelldefels amb destinació Barcelona.

At the same time, a new livery was launched which would replace the SELNEC orange and white and introduced more orange and incorporated a brown skirt : White was used for the roof.
One of the earliest repaints was former Lancashire United Fleetline 490, which lost its red and grey for the new scheme. The LUT fleet was renumbered, again in the same period of 1981 and 490 would shortly become 6906. The bus is seen here heading along Irlams o'th Height into Manchester during its brief period of running in the new livery with its old fleetnumber, the only such Standard that did.
