Josef Mengele (/ˈjoːzəf ˈmɛngələ/) (Gunzburgo, Baviera; 16 de marzo de 1911 – Bertioga, Brasil; 7 de febrero de 1979) fue un médico, antropólogo y oficial alemán de las Schutzstaffel (SS) durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial en el campo de concentración de Auschwitz, donde fue miembro destacado de un grupo de médicos responsable de la selección de las víctimas que iban a ser ejecutadas en las cámaras de gas y que realizó experimentos mortales con prisioneros. Los internos recién llegados eran divididos entre los que se consideraban aptos para trabajos forzados y los que no, quienes eran asesinados inmediatamente en las cámaras de gas. Mengele abandonó Auschwitz el 17 de enero de 1945, poco antes de la llegada de las tropas del Ejército Rojo, que liberaron el campo de concentración. Tras el fin de la guerra huyó a Sudamérica, donde evitó ser capturado hasta su muerte.
Mengele obtuvo un doctorado en antropología y medicina por la Universidad de Múnich y comenzó una carrera como investigador. Se afilió al partido nazi en 1937 y a las SS en 1938. Al comienzo de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, fue asignado como oficial médico de batallón, pero a principios de 1943 se trasladó al servicio de campos de concentración y fue destinado a Auschwitz. Allí tuvo la oportunidad de realizar experimentos genéticos con humanos, muchas veces sobre gemelos, sin tener en cuenta el bienestar y la seguridad de sus víctimas.
Con la ayuda de una red de antiguos miembros de las SS, Mengele navegó a Argentina en julio de 1949. En un principio vivió en Buenos Aires y alrededores, pero huyó a Paraguay en 1959 y a Brasil en 1960 perseguido por Alemania Occidental, Israel y cazanazis como Simon Wiesenthal, que querían llevarlo a juicio. A pesar de las solicitudes de extradición del gobierno de la Alemania Occidental y de las operaciones clandestinas del Mosad —el servicio de inteligencia israelí—, Mengele evitó ser detenido. Murió ahogado mientras nadaba en una playa brasileña en 1979 y fue enterrado con un nombre falso. Sus restos fueron exhumados e identificados por un examen forense en 1985. (Wikipedia)

Starting from 1830's , American settlers and hide-hunters killed the animal to near-extinction, and tourists shot the animals from the windows of trains as if the slaughter could last forever. Buffalo had once numbered more than 30 million, and by the end of the 19th century there were only a few hundred in the wild. Today, some 20,000-25,000 remain in public herds. One of the ugliest things that American had ever done to the environment.

This striking NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image captures the galaxy UGC 477, located just over 110 million light-years away in the constellation of Pisces (The Fish).
UGC 477 is a low surface brightness (LSB) galaxy. First proposed in 1976 by Mike Disney, the existence of LSB galaxies was confirmed only in 1986 with the discovery of Malin 1. LSB galaxies like UGC 477 are more diffusely distributed than galaxies such as Andromeda and the Milky Way. With surface brightnesses up to 250 times fainter than the night sky, these galaxies can be incredibly difficult to detect.
Most of the matter present in LSB galaxies is in the form of hydrogen gas, rather than stars. Unlike the bulges of normal spiral galaxies, the centres of LSB galaxies do not contain large numbers of stars. Astronomers suspect that this is because LSB galaxies are mainly found in regions devoid of other galaxies, and have therefore experienced fewer galactic interactions and mergers capable of triggering high rates of star formation.
LSB galaxies such as UGC 477 instead appear to be dominated by dark matter, making them excellent objects to study to further our understanding of this elusive substance. However, due to an underrepresentation in galactic surveys — caused by their characteristic low brightness — their importance has only been realised relatively recently.

I think it would be fair to say that anything goes at Northfleet! Whilst route 477 has its own allocation of five 10.9m Wrightbus StreetLites the longer 'MAX' variant is becoming a frequent visitor to the route.
