BCOL 4623 leads L517 as it nears New Brighton. A seriously gloomy and rainy day (pouring!) was made brighter by the appearance of this locomotive in the lead. It was also made brighter by meeting three friends who also felt it was necessary to catch this even when holding an umbrella.

The sun begins to lower on this clear winter day, as KCS 4623 brings a northbound MSZSH through Gulf Coast Jct. on the East Belt in northeast Houston.
Right under the Hirsch Road overpass where I'm standing, the train will turn onto UP's ex-MP Beaumont Sub for the eastbound run back to KCS rails at Beaumont.
And interestingly, on this short stretch of the East Belt between Belt Jct. and Gulf Coast Jct., the train is northbound according to KCS, heading geographically east, but timetable southbound on the UP!
