One man's meat is another man's poison . . . (for MacroMondays Wise Old Sayings)

Late last week, I did my last bluebird nest box census. To show what an odd year this has been, normally breeding season stars in February and ends in mid-May. This year, it didn't start until April, and now the bluebirds, tree swallows, ash-throated flycatchers, and even some finches not only started late, but some of them are having a second clutch! While I was afraid that the drought would cut the number of fledglings in half, now it looks at though "my" area may produce a third more.

I'm just home from a short hospital stay (all's well and progressing nicely, thank you), and had timed the census so that I thought I'd be done with medical stuff when the birds were done. Well, the best laid plans... Now, I have to have some of the others who have their own trails, do double duty and perhaps carry on through July or even early August.

Thanks for your comments and emails. I appreciate them all. EW
