Slightly more rare in my experience these are quite small fish. I pursued this fish for 5 minutes then gave him a break. Lovely colors. I think of this as the Zispepo fish now!

I had a lot of fun with this soft coral fish. I was toward the back end of my only dive for that day, and noted a very small movemetn in the fronds of this flower pot coral. Through patience and persistence I was able to use my 105mm with my 2.0 teleconverter to get some nice close shots. This fish was in Brownian motion (ceaseless random motion) across the soft coral. I don't think you could use a super macro converter or a magnifier to get these shots since the subject is very dynamic...

Seen around 60 feet as we transited the fisherman/shark hangout area of the reef. At first i thought this was a Greasy Reefcod, but its size was immense! When i looked at the photos it is clearly not the same grouper. It spent all its time in the rocks and retreating back deeper. I liked this shot best sincethe shadowing of the mouth and luminance on the eye make it looks menacing, but it was a very cautious fish in reality. The lines of the body folded on itself also lend a dynamic effect to the picture.

The image in this 3rd post on the subject of my Hasselblad 500C/M camera shows a configuration that is substantially different to that shown in the first 2 posts. In this post, I will discuss the change from the waist level viewfinder to a viewfinder that is angled at 45 degrees down from the horizontal.
With a waist level viewfinder, the photographer looks down into the viewfinder box onto the focusing screen. With the 45 degree viewfinder shown here, the photographer raises the camera up to one eye and looks at an angle of 45 degrees down onto the focusing screen.
Hasselblad also makes a 90 degree viewfinder. With this accessory, the photographer brings the camera right up to one eye and looks through a horizontal tube to see the focussing screen. Given the weight and bulk of the camera, I prefer the 45 degree viewfinder because I don't have to lift the camera up as high!
For myself, this 45 degree viewfinder has several advantages over the standard waist level viewfinder - (1) it has a diopter lens that allows me to adjust the focus for my eyesight so that I can see the focussing screen perfectly in focus, (2) it restores the correct upright left-right orientation of the scene being photographed, and (3) it includes a light meter. At this very early stage, I can see myself using the waist level viewfinder when shooting candid photographs and the 45 degree viewfinder when taking more leisurely, considered shots.
With the waist level viewfinder, the scene is portrayed on the focusing screen as upright but with left-right reversed. This takes a little getting used to when composing a shot! This 45 degree viewfinder provides an image of the scene that has the identical orientation to the scene being photographed.
The 500C/M doesn't have a light meter in its basic configuration. I carry a separate light meter when using this configuration (i.e., an analog Sekonic L-398A Studio Deluxe III Meter). This model of the 45 degree viewfinder has a built in light meter that just means I have one less item to carry around. In either case, though, the photographer must take the light reading from the meter and manually dial up the desired shutter speed and aperture - i.e., there is no electronic connection between the light meter in the viewfinder and the lens. Indeed, that goes for everything on the Hasselblad 500C/M - it is a completely manual camera - i.e., for focusing, setting the aperture, setting the shutter speed, advancing the film, and cocking the shutter. The consolation, or in my opinion, the joy of it, is that the camera has been engineered to make each of these operations an absolute joy. The controls are so smooth and solid to the touch!

Beaded Sea Anemones (Heteractis aurora) are a fairly common species in Okinwa. The two banded anemone fish (Amphiprion bicinctus) are also common. They are enticing to take photos of, but can yeild mixed results. This photo is somewhat satisfying with nice detail on both the fish and the anemone.

A prolific and reliably seen nudibranch, I am always greeted by them on my dives. They range in size from quite small to large. They have a tendenc to hold on with the caudal section (rear end) of their body and try to climb/find purchase with their rostral end (front part). This one was spotted on the way to the exit after 95 minutes at depth with 500psi, which any diver knows is when you see the best creatures!

On this day, Shawn Miller and I went out looking for pygmy seahorse. On the way out i noticed this thready creature moving on a reef segment. It is clearly a tiny sea dragon. This photo coincided with the plankton spawn, so a recently hatched pipefish makes sense. Lovely young specimen in any case.

A sleeping adult Dusky Parrotfish (Scarus niger) sleeping. Sleeping parrotfish protect themselves from predators by creating a mucous bubble to sleep in. It keeps their delicious fishy odor out of the water so no predators come to eat them. They don't have eyelids, so they can't close their eyes. This fish was sleeping, and I was able to get a nice close shot without waking him up.

Saw this micronudibranch under a rocky overhang on the seawall. It was not longer than 2cm. Loved the benefit of the teleconverter with this specimen.
The second photo I am posting of this specimen. It was quite small and at an odd angle. With the 200mm equivalent lens, I had a hard time framing it and avoiding damaging the reef. This is cropped andthe colors were manipulated in Lightroom.

At the end of along dive, I noted this Hypselodoris moving among the sand and vegetation. Again, probaly too large for good super macro, and moving way too fash. I kept "just pushing the button" and eventually got somwhat lucky. Rhinopores are appreciated fairly well in this photograph.

In this 4th post for my "new" Hasselblad 500C/M camera, I have shown the main components of the configuration pictured in the 3rd post separated out from one another. This helps to make the point that this is a "system" camera - i.e., that the camera has a modular architecture that permits the photographer to readily swap out many of the major components for alternatives.
The Hasselblad 500C/M medium format film camera that I got as a Christmas present had a fairly standard configuration - 80mm lens, A12 film back, and waist-level viewfinder. Knowing that there are different options for these components, I turned to the internet to see what was on offer. It came as no surprise to read that there were a range of different lenses for the camera - this is a feature that is available for many cameras. It is a little more unusual that there are quite a few different viewfinders options available. But what really stood out was that the camera back could be swapped out, even in the middle of a roll of film. Having inserted a sheet of metal known as a "dark slide" that stops light from reaching the film, the back can be separated from the rest of the camera. It can then be replaced with a different back, perhaps one with a different film type in it - e.g., a color film versus B&W, a film with a different ISO, etc.
And then the biggest surprise of all - that the film back can be replaced with a digital back. These backs have a CPU to control the unit, a light sensitive digital sensor array, a compact flash card storage system, and a screen for viewing the controls and the pictures that are taken. Based on sensor resolution, there are 3 different lines of digital backs for the Hasselblad 500 (V) series of cameras - 16MP, 39MP and 50MP. Shown here is a CFV16 II second generation 16MP digital back. Having bought this digital back, I now have a camera that can shoot with both film and digital formats. The latter is proving to be very useful as I begin to learn how to use the camera. The immediate feedback obtained with a digital system is speeding up the learning process considerably!

I was working in the F14-16 range on my 105mm nikkor and flipped the Super Macro Converter down to take a shot at these omnipresent squat lobsters. I think moving my F stop up to max would have brough in the claws more compltely, but I'm very satisfied with my results on teh eyes of this crustacean!

I strapped Go Pro Hero 4 to my rig when i did this dive. Shawn Miller (#yeahIknowshawnmiller) found this Pygmy Seahorse and called me over to get some shots. A challenging subject! You can see how small it is and how it moved across to the other side of the crevice in this short video clip.

I have been bringing my GoPro Hero 4 out on dives an an attachment to my Nauticam housing. I was pointing the GoPro in the same direction as the nauticam. I've found for shooting macro that it isn't especially exciting. The macro subjects I'm working on tend to be fairly small, and therefore not big enough to be impressive on the GoPro.
During this dive, I knocked the GoPro down without noticinging it and filmed myself taking some pictures. I thought it was interesting enough to post. You can see Shawn Miller (#yeahiknowshawnmiller) in the background.
