Vanwege werkzaamheden rond Schiphol op 18, 19 en 20 januari 2019 reden de Beneluxtreinen niet tussen Rotterdam en Amsterdam Centraal. De Thalys reed wel en werd dit keer omgeleid via de Oude lijn. Gelukkig kent de Oude lijn een aantal markante punten, waarvan dit de comfortabelste is (lekker in de warme auto wachten) Ter hoogte van het verlaten voormalige station van Lisse zien we op de koude maar ultra zonnige morgen van zondag 20 januari 2019 PBA Thalys stel 4533 die als vertraagde trein 9340 naar Paris-Nord kortstondig de rust verstoord.
Na een kort bezoek aan Schiphol, werd er een stukje door gereisd naar Sassenheim, waar de omgeleide Thalys was te zien.

After a chase that certainly did not go as planned, I was still able to shoot the westbound UP business train entering Council Bluffs on the last few miles of IAIS trackage before rejoining UP tracks to shove back into the car shops for the end of the evening run.
Like everyone else, fall just manages to pack my schedule, and I have had next to no free time to get out to catch anything. A short day at work combined with a UP passenger special awarded me with an opportunity for an evening chase, so I hopped in with Sam and headed east.
We made it up to the river with plenty of time to spare, as he was just departing Omaha. Sam used the spare time to cut down some of the brush we had to hike through to get over here (what a nice guy) and before long, a whole group of us were waiting on the bank for the shot. With sunny skies and a nice fall breeze, the special rounded the corner and coasted across the bridge. The last time I shot here was the special for the 2022 Super Bowl, which featured bitter cold winds and a three hour wait, so I can't complain about this time around.
Once he cleared, we ran back through the brush, now with a few less branches to shove through, and headed south.
