Last year I had around 50 lesser redpoll in the garden - they ate me out of house and nyjer seed I'm pleased to say. So this year I have bought a huge bag of nyjer seed and this in spite of the fact I thought "sod's law" would ensure none turned up. Needn't have worried - I have goldfinch, siskin and now redpolls tucking into the feeders. Winter is very good for something other than Christmas and snow.

Thank you to everyone who has shown interest in this picture and made such super comments. It's pouring with rain here today (Saturday) and my little chums have been feeding up all day. They and the other birds had attracted the attention of a female sparrowhawk this morning but she flew off without breakfast when I went to put the food out.
