This morning in the yard
No. 4419 just north of Potters Bar on a down local in 1938. Built in 1906, it was fitted with a booster engine on the trailing axle by Gresley in 1923, but was removed in 1935. No. 4419 was unique as the only GNR large boilered Atlantic to have a Pacific type side window cab which had also been fitted by Gresley in 1923. Although it was withdrawn after Nationalisation, in July 1948, it never carried a BR number. A colourised b/w taken by C. R. L. Coles.
