Koning Winter is nog steeds volop in het land. Op woensdag 17 januari viel er in de buurt van Brussel 10 à 15 centimeter sneeuw - niet echt aangenaam als je er moet doorrijden maar wel fraai... zeker als de sneeuw zou blijven liggen (inderdaad ja) en als de zon er zou doorkomen (en dat was inderdaad voorzien voor de dag na de sneeuwval door de verschillende weersites die ik controleer).
En aangezien ik in de voormiddag geen vergaderingen voorzien had en er thuiswerk op de planning stond, werd snel een extra halve dag verlof genomen. Een paar sneeuwfoto's met trein erop waren zo wat plichtwerk voor mij.
En zo trok ik op donderdag 18 januari naar Rebecq en wachtte op wat ging komen. Nou dat wachten was een beetje letterlijk te noemen want door treinvertragingen duurde het een pak langer dan voorzien voor ik beet had. Gelukkig had mijn broer Wouter net hetzelfde idee en dus ging met een babbel de tijd veel sneller voorbij.
Na een eerste Thalys... euh Eurostar (uitgevoerd met een PBA stel in een dienst Amsterdam - Parijs die met meer dan 30 minuten in de plus reed), volgde al snel deze PBKA met een relatief op tijd zijnde Eurostar van Dortmund Hbf naar de Franse lichtstad. Hiervoor werd deze fraaie Ruby gebruikt.
Een groot verschil met verleden week rond Herk de Stad. De enige constante was de kou ;-)

After the snowfall on Wednesday 17 January 2024, the weather forecast predicted sunny weather for Thursday.
So I planned to take some recup hours on the morning. The destination was soon clear: the surroundings of Rebecq. This is on the one hand not far from home and the view over the snowy landscape in direction of the valley of the Senne is splendid here.
I was not the only one with this planning and so my brother Wouter joined me after a couple of minutes (and to be honest this wasn't prearranged).
Together we waited for some trains - it took a bit longer than planned due to delays. But with two Eurostar services to Paris and a TGV and a Eurostar service from London to Brussels in a duration of +/- 30 minutes the outcome was more than satisfying.

The white building in the top middle is the roundhouse, one of only a handful still in use in Mexico.

This old boxcar from a road I had never heard of was in the consist of 19K. I did some research and found that the road was abandoned in 1984 and the rails taken up in 1987.
