CP OCS taking one of many sharp curves in between St. Paul and Davenport as they traverse the Marquette Sub. Here they are crossing the "Turkey River" in..... Turkey River.

The CP OCS passing by a loaded rail train with a fresh crew about to head South and dump some rail. If it wasn't for this being the OCS I would've been ending my chase here to chase the rail train consist Southbound. It made for a nice meet at least.

It turned into a zoo after this spot.

I've always been amazed at the invention of the flashbulb, I remember being at parties when I was young and seeing expended ones in the ashtrays or people playing hot potato with them trying to que up for the next shot and popping the bulb out before it cooled. I think this screw in model was before my time but when I saw it I knew I had to have it for a shot. At last the Sylvania Flashbulb, No. 40B! As for size, it measures 3.75 in. x 2 in., about the size of a standard light bulb

To create the setting, I glued a metal support rod to the back of the threaded section which I later removed in post. Lighting was all about controlling the reflections and in the end I used one spot directly over the bulb and another over the camera pointing slightly down. I added a sparkle piece of silver paper under the bulb about 10 inches below to kick a little light on the bottom. No flash or flashbulbs were used in the making of this shot.

CP 40B snaking down the River Sub in the first sunrays of the day.

In some of the first sunrays of the day CP 40B makes its way out of Minnesota City on the River Sub. This was a great chase that began up by Kellogg, MN and ended at Nahant Yard in Davenport, Iowa for about a total of 300 miles.

Hard to figure out what to do here in Bellevue with the 100 other photographers. I opted for this angle and I kind the look of the town. The CP business train wasted no time making the 76 miles trek from Marquette to Bellevue today in 2-20, making it hard for all of us to keep up! The CN and the UP had this foreign carrier hotshot lined up well in advance of their arrival. Main street was hoping for a short bit as the train quietly rolled thru this small river town.

It was a close call slowly following the CP cop into this spot, only to have the lady wearing an afghan walk into the shot with her phone at the last minute, totally oblivious to the half a dozen people behind her. Thanks goes to Matt Bro for yelling at her to back up.

First light came at Minneiska.

The shadows are growing long as Canadian Pacific OCS 40B heads west across the East Outlet.

CP OCS heading South along the River Sub. It was a great day chasing this train from Weaver, MN to Davenport, IA. It was nice meeting some people in person for the first time and seeing others for the first time in a while.

Canadian Pacific's business train fires along at track speed through Crow River, just outside of Belgrade, in a perfectly timed pocket of sun on an otherwise overcast spring morning. This would be some of the only sun we'd see the train in, but definitely made it worth it.

Canadian Pacific train 40B-20, clears the 20 mph speed restriction along 2nd Street in Bellevue, Iowa, and returns to track speed. It was a perfect fall day for a ride down the Mississippi on the RCP.

CP 40B crosses the E.T. Seton park in East York with a pair of 1950s FP9As, a FP9B and some ancient heavyweight business coaches. This little trestle doesn't come close to the mammoth in Parry Sound but it's one of the most impressive pieces of railway infrastructure in the city of Toronto to date.

CP business train 40B-12 briefly hugs the Wisconsin River just east of Wisconsin Dells with four Fs and eight cars.

CP's business train begins its journey east on the Brooks Subdivision. The train will eventually make it all the way to Ottawa for the LPGA Canadian Open which CP is a sponsor.

A hot summer breeze swept over the farmland outside of Smiths Falls and carried the unique horn blasts of CP 40B the "Royal Canadian Pacific" as it heads for CN's Walkley yard. It will be used for presentations relating to the women's open golf tournament. CP is the main sponsor for the event hosted just minutes away at the Ottawa Hunt Golf and Country Club.

Down on the south end of Canadian Pacific's Kansas City Sub, I ran out after work today, and got the CP 40B coming into town at MP 485 of the Kansas City Sub. This is at the Lancaster Rd. crossing between Liberty and Mosby, MO, and after the SD70ACu leader debacle from a few months ago, I knew that I HAD to get out for this one. It's still a bit baffling that it wasn't running ABA, but I'm not going to complain too loudly about that.

CPKC 40B finally pulls across Division Street after being held at Humboldt for multiple BNSF eastbounds. The train would continue down the River Sub under the cover of darkness.

Train 40B makes its way along the last short stretch of the Cartier Sub before it veers south onto the Parry Sound Sub. It would run ACOT between St Cloud and Reynolds and be shot by "one or two" other railfans during the journey to Toronto.

These guys weren't calling signals on the radio as they should've been, ATCS was not loading either. I knew they were past Polo but had no idea what main they would use, Main 1 splits off and runs far west of here. I was about to give up, assuming they took Main 1, also a massive cloud bank was quickly moving right towards the sun. However, to my surprise, they finally showed up not a minute too soon here into downtown Lawson. This line is quite the tree tunnel, and finding any decent shots is nearly impossible.

Thanks to my fellow foamer friends who helped out.

Canadian Pacific's business train had come down to Kansas City today from Nahant Yard in the Quad Cities, and after I saw where it was parked, I knew that I had to give a night photo a shot. The train was running today as the 40B, and the word on the street is that it will be continuing south on the KCS next week.

CP's 40B rolls east through Newcastle, Ontario on the Belleville Subdivision, just north of the west end of Lovekin siding.

CPKC 40B is eastbound through Regal, Minnesota which is nothing more than a grain elevator, a tire shop, a bar, and a population of less than 50.

CP 40B pauses for a crew change at the depot in Schreiber.

Running as CP 40B, CP 9784 leads a pair of ECOs east through Cherrywood on the CPR Belleville Sub with both the American and Canadian holiday trainsets in tow. Normally this train would just be the pair of ECOs for power, but some issues lead to 9784 being added in Toronto Yard. I'm not exactly complaining.

Lucky me, all I had to do to get this shot was take an early lunch and drive 10 miles. Thanks to Q for the reminder that this spot exists.

CP 1401 & company lead up Canadian Pacific's Royal Canadian OCS train (symbolled 40B) through Spring Valley, just north of Lansing, IA.

I call it Spring Valley because of the road (Spring Valley Drive) that intersects with The Great River Road (highway that follows the railroad in this region of the state) right here next to Strub Farm. Guess I could also call this spot Strub Farm, huh.

Anyway, I believe these guys had all the big wigs on board, including Keith Creel(?) on their way down to Kansas City to meet up with the KCS OCS for some big wig shenanigans prior to the big merger date, which was just less than half a year away at the time this was taken.

Taken on the Canadian Pacific Marquette Subdivision on 10/20/22.

CP Presidential Train 40B is wasting no time as they head down the hill for St. Paul Yard. Of course a BNSF westbound with a horrible looking Dash 9 had to stall on the St. Paul Sub. This is the 1900's first RCP trip since being rebuilt. I believe the B-unit's positioning is due to the 4107's lack of HEP pass-through capability.
