It won't be long now before we hear a robin sing. They make an occasional appearance around Christmas, but we're going to need more rain (and earthworms) before we see them daily and they start nesting (March).

The American robin (Turdus migratorius) is a migratory songbird of the true thrush genus and Turdidae, the wider thrush family. It is named after the European robin. The latter is a flycatcher, "ours" a thrush and the only relationship (really) is that those who came to American saw the red breast and made the "scientific conclusion."

The American robin is widely distributed throughout North America, wintering from southern Canada to central Mexico and along the Pacific Coast. It is the state bird of Connecticut, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Anyway, a Merry Christmas to all of my Flickr friends and those who visit periodically. Let's try and go out with a bang. I wish I drank! Oh, maybe my daughter will make eggnog. What a great way to put on weight!
