I was in Eaton Centre, Toronto’s major downtown mall which is, curiously enough, still named after a store which has not been part of the mall for many years. I was invited to take part in a product demonstration and had a few minutes so I agreed – especially since it involved coffee. It was to introduce a new coffee-making system by Nespresso. It is Nestle’s entry into the premium coffee market. (www.nespresso.com/ca/en/home)
Marla introduced herself and gave me a guided tour through the products and helped me select the brew that would best suit my preferences. Because I’d already had a couple of cups of coffee and was doing my photo project, I selected the brew that was half coffee and half decaf. (I hate having shaky hands when taking photos.) Marla was very friendly and good at her job as she demonstrated the machine and fresh-brewed a cup of coffee which really did taste delicious.
At the end of the demonstration Marla asked if I had any questions. I suddenly remembered the camera around my neck and noted the light coming down into the mall from the atrium into Marla’s beautiful eyes. “Well, I do have a question but it’s not about coffee. I’m doing a Flickr photo project and I just realized what a great subject you would be for a portrait. Would you let me photograph you?” “Right here? Right now?” “Yes” I replied. “I don’t want to get you in trouble so if you can’t, just say so.” “Well” she said, “I guess if it’s real quick there wouldn’t be any harm.” I just asked her to take one step back against the display booth wall and popped off two frames and left it at that for fear of getting her reprimanded. I thanked her for the delicious cup of coffee and as I was leaving, she was inviting the next patron into the world of Nespresso coffee-making.
Thank you Marla for the delicious cup of coffee and for participating in 100 Strangers. You are Stranger #405 in Round 5 of my project.
Feel free, Marla, to get in touch if you'd like a copy of your photo.

Turbo diesel, normally pretty rare in Australia but there were about 3 or 4 parked around this block, though it was cheating as there is a Peugeot repair shop nearby.
The Peugeot 405 was launched in Europe in 1987. Both wagon and saloon (Befline) - shown here, were available. Production ended in 1997 in Europe, though the 405 is still manufactured in Iran.
The car was one of the early fruits of the merger of the Citroen marque into the PSA (Peugeot) group. The platform was shared with the Citroen BX.
The Peugeot 405 was a direct replacement for the RWD Peugeot 505 model, though was able to offer nearly as much interior accommodation through the use of a compact transverse FWD layout whereas the 505 had been RWD. The Peugeot 405 also represented a long line of family oriented 40X models, the last of which, the 404, had a production run from the early 1960s. The 405 was itself replaced by the larger 406, again with a chassis shared with Citroen, this time the Xantia.
The Peugeot 405's crisp lines were the work of Italian design house Pininfarina, who had been responsible for many previous Peugeot model designs. The theme was seen in the larger Alfa Romeo 164 model, shown launched later that year.

LOS ANGELES - JULY 16, 2011: California Highway Patrol vehicles straddle a quiet 405 freeway. An unprecedented shutdown lasting more than two days marked the first time the key southern California freeway had been silent in more than 50 years.

I had seen this red 405 since months near to this Peugeot garage, 5 minutes away from home. It seemed particularly interesting because of the fog lights and the spoiler.
Today, I finally pulled over and wasn't disappointed. I looked at the rear wheel hub: It must be a 4x4! And yes, it was! Even a Mi16x4!
I definitely also like this interior very much!

I was lucky! I've taken these pics on Saturday, 18.04.2015.
This Monday, 20.04.2015, the 405 had disappeared. It had been parked there for months (without ever moving, I'd say).
