Every once in a while we get lucky and a photogenic species just drops into our camera range.

This group of Buntings landed a short distance from where I was sitting on the beach. There were probably 20 or 30 more birds in the flock. The flock is actively feeding on the seeds from the beach grass in this image.

They landed fed for a minute or so and then whoosh, the whole flock was gone in a blur. Which is typical of these guys in winter.

Color still remains on the trees outside of Osier, CO as D&RGW #463 rounds the cliffside curve at MP 317.3 on October 19, 2023 heading east with her freight consist.
