Tja, eigentlich hätte ich lieber den "Nightpiercer" in führender Position aufgenommen, aber der Fotograf muss nehmen, was kommt. Und das nahm er gerne! BR 193 534 und 532 vor dem Containerzug 40201 unterwegs Richtung Rangierbahnhof Muttenz.

Dan and I went to the Canoga Park Lego store on Saturday. I got this Pick-A-Brick cup, Lego 60090 Deep Sea Scuba Scooter, and the Series 7 mixels. We also got Lego 40201 Valentine's Cupid Dog, Lego 41111 Friends Party Train, and one of the Series 15 Collectible Minifigures for Dan's niece. She broke her leg so hopefully these will help to keep her occupied .

Conscientious Objector (CO) Osman Murat Ülke at danger of reimprisonment
Turkish conscientious objector Osman Murat Ülke, who spent 2 1/2 years in prison from October 1996 until March 1999, and who won his case at the European Court of Human Rights in 2006, received a new order from the military prosecutors office of Eskisehir informing him that he is expected to present himself within 10 days of issue of that notice to the prosecutor in order to serve a sentence of 17 months and 15 days in respect of earlier convictions for refusing to undertake military service.
Failure to do so would result in a warrant being issued for his arrest. The document in question had been issued on 14 June 2007, so that it is highly likely that presently there is an arrest warrant for Osman Murat Ülke, putting him at high risk of arrest and reimprisonment.

Vanuit de Kempentoren in het spoorpark van Tilburg heb je een prachtig uitzicht over de omgeving. Deze woensdag heeft het KNMI code geel afgegeven vanwege de hitte en het RIVM waarschuwt o.a. in Noord-Brabant voor smog. De voorspelde smog is op de foto in de lucht goed te zien. In de schaduw en met wat wind is het echter prima vol te houden bijna boven in de toren.
Kleurrijke treinen bleven uit. De volledig beladen intermodale trein 40201 vanuit de Waalhaven naar het Italiaanse Busto Gallarate met SBB Cargo 193 547 als tractie is echter ook een mooie vangst. Deze trein gaat normaal gesproken via de Betuweroute, maar wordt momenteel omgeleid via Venlo vanwege werkzaamheden tussen Emmerich en Oberhausen.
Primeur drie kreeg ik ook in het Venlose bos te zien, en eigenlijk best snel na primeur twee. Ook hier betrof het een Vectron, maar ditmaal eentje van SBB Cargo International. Een zogenaamde XLoad, het nieuwste type Vectron dat door Siemens werd ontwikkeld met verbeterde tractiecontrole en geoptimaliseerde software voor zware goederentreinen op hellende trajecten. De XLoad-versie is bovendien uitgerust met een vernieuwd energiemanagementsysteem en biedt extra trekkracht bij lage snelheden — een echte krachtpatser voor het internationale goederenverkeer.
En dan nog wel een bijzondere verschijning, want deze 193 460, met de naam “1000er Stägli Olten”, draagt een speciale kleurstelling met een iets donkerder grijze zijwand en witgekleurde bergtoppen op de zijkant. De naam verwijst naar een bekende trappenweg in de stad Olten, waar SBB Cargo International zijn hoofdzetel heeft: een trap met duizend treden die symbool staat voor doorzettingsvermogen en volharding — eigenschappen die ook deze locomotief uitstekend typeren. Niet voor niets kreeg hij in spotterskringen de bijnaam “Frostpiercer” — een winterse locomotief die zich vandaag liet bewonderen in een uitgesproken herfstig decor.
Aan de haak hing de Bustoshuttle van Rotterdam Waalhaven naar Busto Arsizio, een vaste klant bij SBB Cargo International. De trein bevond zich hier in de laatste meters op Nederlandse bodem, diep in het Venlose bos dat Nederland van Duitsland scheidt. Tussen de verkleurende bladeren en het zachte najaarslicht vormde deze passage een bijzonder sfeervol moment — een Zwitserse locomotief die via Nederlands Limburg haar weg zoekt naar Italië, met de herfst als decor.

My third “first” of the day appeared surprisingly soon after the second — again in the woods near Venlo. And once more, it was a Vectron, this time belonging to SBB Cargo International. A so-called XLoad, the latest version of Siemens’ Vectron series, featuring improved traction control and optimized software for heavy freight operations on steep gradients. The XLoad version also comes with an upgraded energy management system and additional tractive power at low speeds — a true workhorse for international freight traffic.
And what a sight it was: locomotive 193 460, carrying the name “1000er Stägli Olten.” The name refers to a well-known stairway in the Swiss city of Olten, where SBB Cargo International has its headquarters — a climb of roughly a thousand steps, symbolizing endurance and perseverance, perfectly fitting qualities for this powerful machine. The loco also features a unique livery, with slightly darker grey sides and snow-white mountain peaks, earning it the nickname “Frostpiercer” among rail enthusiasts — a winter-themed locomotive seen today in a truly autumnal setting.
At the head of the Busto Shuttle from Rotterdam Waalhaven to Busto Arsizio, this train was captured here on its final metres of Dutch soil, deep within the Venlo forest that forms the natural border between the Netherlands and Germany. Framed by turning leaves and soft autumn light, it made for an atmospheric moment — a Swiss locomotive on its journey to Italy via Dutch Limburg, with autumn as its backdrop.
