One of the wintering birds that blesses us with its presence. This is a male, with the colorful beak, a quick snap in between dives for crusties. It's not the first Surf Scoter I've ever posted, but I did achieve a new "low" with this image, sitting at water level. It was cold and windy though, as you can see how roughed up this wetland water surface is. A lot of the trails at this special wetland area are well above the water level, along breakwater-like inner bays and channels, so you're always looking down on the birds. This particular spot happened to be right at water's edge, next to the tide gate, a rare treat.

It lingered in the same place for at least five minutes allowing me a few different very low light, ultra-slow-speed portraits. When I finally needed to cross the bridge it took to a nearby tree chasing a Little Wattle Bird in the process.
Handheld at 1/15th. And it can do that consistently. Just need a calm subject!

Walking locally in Healdwood, Stockport looking for Macro subjects when I spotted this single bird feather caught on a fern frond. Seemed a good everyday subject to photograph particularly as the three main colours worked well together. I took three images and stacked them.
The fourth of what would be fifteen Leyland Titans to join the Greater Manchester PTE fleet heads for Castleton in the Hope Valley.
Glossop depot became home to the ten Titans with Gardner engines, and could regularly be seen in the hustle and bustle of Manchester city centre and in more tranquil settings like here, such was the variety of work operated by the small depot.
