Zu den wohl ungewöhnlichsten Anschlussgleisen im Hexagon gehört zweifelsohne dasjenige des Lafarge-Zementwerks im südfranzösischen Port-la-Nouvelle (vgl. www.flickr.com/photos/132444999@N07/31954363012/in/album-... ). Es zweigt am nordwestlichen Bahnhofskopf von den Hauptgleisen ab und führt in einem engen Bogen mitten hinein in die Lagunenlandschaft der Étangs, vorbei an Fischerhütten und deren in buntesten Farben schillernden Booten. Als Lagerraum hat - wenn ich das Objekt in Bildmitte richtig deute - sogar der Aufbau eines ehemaligen Kühlwagens in dem illustren Sammelsurium überlebt...
Nachdem die ITE (das steht für "Installation Terminale Embranchée", das französische Äquivalent zum Anschlussgleis) über ein Jahrzehnt ungenutzt und dem Verfall und Bewuchs preisgegeben war, erweckte Lafarge sie Ende 2016 wieder zum Leben. Hintergrund war die zeitgleiche Reduzierung der Unternehmensaktivität am Standort La Couronne bei Angoulême, wo seit Anfang 2017 nur noch die Zementmühle (Broyage) zur Zerkleinerung des bereits zuvor gebrannten Zementklinkers in Betrieb ist. Letzterer wird seitdem per Bahn vom Standort Port-la-Nouvelle aus zugeführt. www.railpassion.fr/reseaux-francais/lite-lafarge-de-port-...
Mit der Durchführung der zwei- bis dreimal pro Woche stattfindenden Transporte ist Europorte betraut, wobei vor den 1.500 Tonnen schweren Zügen aufgrund der nötigen Rangierarbeiten an den Endbahnhöfen - u.a. auf "unserem" Anschlussgleis - trotz des komplett elektrifizierten Hauptlaufs eine der beindruckenden Euro 4000-Großdieselloks des Unternehmens zum Einsatz gelangt.
Am Morgen des 23. September 2021 war €4034 pünktlich mit dem Leerzug 60201 (Angoulême - Port-la-Nouvelle) am Zielbahnhof eingetroffen. Keine zehn Minuten nach der Ankunft - die Rangiercrew war extrem fix - drückte sie die Wagenschlange bereits quer durch die Lagune in Richtung der Beladestelle auf dem Werksgelände, wo ebenso rasch die Beladung mit Klinker abgewickelt werden und der Vollzug sich noch im Laufe des Vormittags wieder auf die Rückreise machen wird.

This was the only example of this twin-engined fighter to be built.
At Längluh (2870 m - 9416 ft), we have an incomparable panorama. Here we see the arrival station of the Längfluh cable car, with a large glacier and Saas-Fee 1000 m below. In the background, magnificent peaks around 4000 m, including the Weissmies (4017 m - 13186 ft) adorn the landscape.

À Längluh (2870 m - 9416 ft), on a un panorama incomparable. On voit ici la station d'arrivée du télécabine de la Längfluh, avec un grand glacier et Saas-Fee 1000 m plus bas. En arrière-plan, de magnifiques sommets autours de 4000, dont le Weissmies (4017 m) ornent le paysage.

Another one from the track of the dead tale, the very first FXE SD70ACe now reduced to pieces.
This engine was wrecked on March, 2024 in the town of Cofradía del Rosario, Jalisco, when the empty iron ore train this engine was trailing crashed head on into a manifest train that was waiting for this train to go into the siding. The lead engine of the iron ore train, EMDX 7221, is also on retired status, unsure if Progress Rail will ever repair it or not.
One of the empty gondolas on the head-end flew into the sky, destroying the rear end of the 4000 and landing on top of the EMDX Tier 4 ACe.

This is a 68 shot panorama of the Milky Way setting over a small unnamed lake near Quairading, about 2 hours east of Perth in Western Australia.
I originally planned on going straight to another nearby location but made a last minute decision to detour here. The triangular strip of land in the central foreground is actually the road that normally passes through this lake but with heavy winter rains in the state it has been flooded over. To this point the night had been very calm with almost no wind but there was a steady breeze here rippling the surface of the lake creating a smooth texture due to the long exposure.
Prominent in this image are the Large & Small Magellanic Clouds to the left and the North America Nebula just above the horizon on the far right. The light pollution in the centre is from the Wheatbelt town of Quairading about 5km to the west.

There are approximately 4,000 places to stop on the drive from Te Anau to Milford, and this is one of them. It’s kind of a must-stop! The scene is crazy-powerful, and it changes throughout the day. I’ve noticed sometimes in the morning it is foggy and hard to see, but it’s still interesting even then. When planning car-trips in New Zealand, it’s best just to add a few extra hours into the experience!

My daughter who was taking photos with me was ready to head home, but I wanted to take this capture with aperture at f/11 for the light stars. To keep the shot from being to long, I went to ISO 4000 and 30 seconds.
I was interesting to see how the high ISO would work for this night scene. Turned out not too bad.
