Supposedly hardy to zone 4, only 2 of my 19 cone flower plants survived the last harsh winter in zone 5. This is from the new stock planted this cool spring and hopefully we might have a milder winter.
The Sovam 850 is a car built by the French SOciété des Véhicules André Morin in very limited numbers. Only 160 cars were built between 1965 and 1968. The car has a fiberglass body, based on the chassis and mechanics of the Renault 4.
Only 4 Sovams are known in the Netherlands. The owner of this Sovam also has an other Sovam for spares. He owns the car since 1969!

For 8 days-the same amount of days Rose's statue BOWS & PRAYS to her JESUS!) the baby would remain in her while DR.'S slowly "cut it up-ABORT" the BABY to SAVE her LIFE until 28 July 1929. Rose would SUFFER her MATERNITY & ABORTION PAINS for her so the dr.'s did the ABORTION without a regular operation and she suffered no pain thanks to Rose!!

There is no doubt now that our Praying Angel Statue we named & dedicated to our cousin "Marie Rose Ferron" is "BOWING", "RESTANDING", and "REBOWING" to her JESUS, now! She officially today- Sunday 24 September 2006 at 3:00 p.m. has BOWED TO 17 1/2 INCHES! Yesterday she was at 17 1/4! Only 07 Sept. she was at 16 and the 20th August she at 15! She restands to 10 inches from fence, then starts the process over again bowing about a 1/4 inches every 2-3 days now! She hasn't gotten past 17 inches so this is a major celebration since her first bow of 24 inches!! Praise God & Thank You Rose!
UPDATE 25 Sept 2006: We put her in her new cement base 25 Sept and took out the wood behind so it reduced her measurement to 16 inches but to our shock the next day 26 Sept. in the base she was 17 1/2 again!! Seems God & Rose wouldn't hear of our changing or reducing her "bow" (smile)! As of September 27, she was 17 1/2 with the base, which is a new style of measurement equivalent to old is 18 1/2 inches!!!!

We made a cement base for Rose 25 September 2006 when she was at 17 1/2 inches away from corner but when we made the base and took out a piece of wood support we were now able to push her even closer to fence. Her new "Base added" measurement would be 16 inches and old measurement was 17 1/2 being a loss of 1 1/2 inches for new style measurement. The next day-26 September 2006, after the base was put in, to our surprise, Rose bowed drastically back to 17 1/2 inches! (Old stye means now 19 inches & New Style is 17 1/2!). She bowed 1 1/2 INCHES OVER NIGHT!! Seems God & Rose wouldn't hear of me changing her measurements!! (smile- lolol!) From now on when I speak of measuring, I will give Old style & New Style when I am able to. We will be making Rose's Memorial Stone out of cement in a heart shape with her real picture of her head with "Crown of thorns" in the top of a cross with Angel Wings about the cross, making her like an Angel on the cross but it also symbolizing Jesus and their united sufferings. Outlining the heart will be the "FERRON FAMILY" ROSARY I have designed in honor of what the Virgin Mary spoke of to Rose on 1 May 1929 when the Virgin Mary showed Rose the rosary with 15 mysteries with Rose's mother at the end, then she showed Rose that her mother had dedicated her to the 10th mystery. Rose's mother had done this in secret & told noone of this. The Virgin Mary revealed this to Rose and her mother had confirmed it later when questioned of it. So this Rosary will be in honor of that Rosary of the 15 mysteries & 15 Ferron children made from gemstones. The cross I hope to make out of birch wood. UPDATE: 3 OCTOBER 2006 ROSE is at 17 14/16!! CHECKED 6:00 PM.

the little children from 4 and 5 years young did act more serious more passionated so better than the elder children. And the show they were giving were also more beautiful. And that they did act better was very logical to understand. The elder children were also very good because everyone was doing her/his best. It was just to get tears in youre eyes to see such , sometimes babies, being such high level good artists......
My oldest son did also join in a similar circusshow..It was the first circus show the school did for the reason the school had a new building wich had the look of a circus tent. It was very much the same...my son Jan was 6 years old at the time and did climb a robe very high..and waved wen he was at the top...and did gave a great little show with it.
Yesterday more children did climb a robe (4?) only one them could do it properly...and made my moment doing so!
This was the last shot and frame of the day. Quite honestly I didn't think it would work. Twilight was ending and approaching early night light. To the eye, Half Dome had a faint glow and the tree line was totally black. I'm sure the few drivers that passed me on Sentinel Bridge thought I was totally nuts.
Using a solid tripod, Nikon set on full manual control with mirror up and remote trigger, a 30 second raw exposure pulled it off.
Luminar, with various layers and filters, brought the image to life. Crop was to a 5X7 ratio.

I converted this to a moody b/w too, which I'll probably have done on canvas because I love this one so much. But, I am posting this one because I love the color of her eyes.
Experts. What do they know anyway? In my experience not a whole lot. I remember hearing when my girls were born that "experts" say if their eyes were blue after 6 months of age, that they'll most likely remain blue. I also remember my aunt tellilng me that blue eyes can change up until the age of 5. Hers did. Well, all 3 of my girls had blue eyes (just like their mom!) at 6 months. Now 2 have hazel (just like their dad). Bit's changed this past year. Angel's blue's changed when she was 4. Only Bean has my baby blues.

Some people say that MFT cameras are not able to produce a shallow depth of field since the crop factor multiply by 2 the zone in focus. It is my experience that it is actually a good thing for wildlife photography since the prime lenses at f/2.8 or even at f/4 produce a very narrow DOF.
In this example I should have closed my aperture to f/5.6 or f/8 to have this Puma's head entirely in focus. Instead , at f/4, only the right eye is really in focus.

I wrote in late November about the last photograph I took in Mesa Verde - in a post called "A luminous goodbye." I also mentioned in that post that I was headed to Stanford to interview for a job. How prescient that title was, as I accepted that job and I'll be leaving the city of Chicago come the summertime. The intervening six months will surely bring many new Chicago photographs to the blog, as will the months afterwards - but eventually my contributions to this blog will take a turn for the Californian. I hope you will all still follow me.
In the depths of winter the sun's declination effect makes for *very* long sunrises and sunsets. This is to say that the sun's arc above the horizon is so low that it takes a much longer time for that precious "golden" hour to end - compare this to the summer where the sun sets at a nearly perpendicular angle to the horizon. I scurried about the 25th floor and the floors above to take as many photographs as I could as the sun completed its long descent. I think with today's news, a sunset image is appropriate.
Here is a view of Chicago of which I have *never* seen a photograph. Once upon a time, the 25th floor of the Tribune Tower was an observation deck, open to the public. Nowadays you need to know someone who knows someone to get here. I felt extremely privileged to get a chance to do some photography from this vantage point, and I hope I did it justice. The pavilion is out amongst the flying buttresses of the great tower and affords a sweeping view from the very heart of the mag mile. Although the Gothic stonework was higher than I could extend my tripod, I managed to hang my camera out over the edge and snap a few images. The city really deserves more places like this that everybody can visit - there is something really breathtaking about seeing the place from a new angle, especially with sunset streaming in from the west side and the river in its winter coat of ice. This one is going straight into the Gotham set as well.
I also have to say thanks to those of you who sent me your questions about cameras, HDR, etc to @thewindypixel. I think I answered those that I got. Mark, who has been contacting me as he has started to dabble a bit in HDR, asked in the comments section to yesterday's post what differences exist between the D5000 and the D90. I mentioned yesterday that the D90 affords you much greater control over the camera that does the D5000. I'll elaborate on just a few of the physical differences that I think eventually become important as you expand as a photographer. First I will say that I know a handful of people who have the D5000 and it is a sweet camera - it does just about everything you'd want for a Lilliputian price. This list is in no particular order, once you're done reading it, you'll realize that these differences aren't make-or-break for a beginner - the key is to get a camera that fits your needs/budget/skill and to get out there and take pictures - you make the photograph, the lens transmits the light and the camera is just a hunk of crap that records it.
1. The D90 includes an autofocus motor, making this camera compatible with older lenses. As the lens is the most important part of the equation - imagine the dismay on a user's face who just purchased a D5000 and wants to use their hand-me-down $2800 Nikon 28mm f/1.4 only to find out - you can't focus!!! Okay this is the number one reason - but the rest aren't in order :P.
2. D90 is more durable - we all should be careful with our toys, but you just never know. This translates into a higher guaranteed shutter count, i.e. not only is the body of the camera tougher - it's guts are tougher too. This also means that the camera uses the larger Nikon batteries which provide you with more shots per charge. Unfortunately, with both the D90 and D5000, Nikon has moved away from CF cards to the smaller SD card.
3. The viewfinder of the D90 is bigger, brighter and covers ~95% of the frame instead of a paltry ~75%. This is a big deal when you are composing.
4. The D90 can support a remote cable release and a battery grip - this is really key for HDR - keep your finger off the camera and your camera on a tripod for good HDR. Yes, the D5000 comes with a remote control release and I am *EXTREMELY* jealous of this as equivalent solutions for the D90, D300, D700, D3 etc cost hundreds of dollars. Then again, the D90 will allow you to plug in a wire release that is equally useful and also accepts things like interval timers, etc.
5. The pop-up flash on the D90 will allow you to wirelessly control Nikon flashes - this may not sound like a big deal, but people pay $200 per flash to do this wirelessly if they don't have it built in. Canon owners can only dream. UPDATE: I was wrong about this - the new Canon 7D will do wireless control - I am ignorant of its features, compatibility, etc. My mistake - thanks to Donald for pointing this out in the comments section.

Fleur-de-Sel Caramels via Not So Humble Pie. Read the comments for a useful discussion of candy-thermometer calibration.
A) I can't even tell you how tasty they are. They are SO GOOD.
B) They're actually a fairly economical thing to make. Out of a 9x9 pan I got 120 gift-worthy caramels (excluding misshapen edges, ones I ate straight out of the pan, etc). I cut them about 1" x 3/4". If you cut them 1" x 1/2" and used the whole pan, you'd still have a decent-sized caramel and you'd get 160. Toss 15 or even 20 of them in a cellophane bag, tie with some ribbon, and you've got 8 or 10 Christmas gifts from a couple cups of cream and sugar.
3) Did I mention that they are TASTY?
4) only real drawback: having to wrap all those individual little suckers. I found that cutting wax paper to about 4"x 4" was the best size for a 1" x 3/4" caramel. I also spent a lot of time while I was cutting 120 4x4 squares of wax paper wondering whether one couldn't simply buy such things precut on the internet somewhere. Sigh.
Now if you'll excuse me I need to go brush my teeth. Again.

On May 23, 2020, the apparent angular distance between Jupiter and Saturn was only 4° 0′ 6″. A shot of them over Meteora, Greece, was captured with a wide-angle lens (24mm) and this was earlier uploaded. The two planets’ apparent positions were approaching each other throughout 2020 and they will reach a closest conjunction on Devember 21, 2020 with only 6’ (one tenth of a degree) separating them.
The apparent angular distance of 4° only between the two planets allowed both of them to fit into one single frame at a 200mm focal length. The magnification at the 200mm was not good at all, so separate shots, too, of each planet were captured at 400mm; cropped parts of these magnified shots were superimposed to the 200mm shot.
This #2.b photograph (in the “Jupiter Saturn 2020” album) has 4 versions:
(i) Arrows pointng to the planets and Galilean Moons with explanatory labels. Triangles point towards the 400mm-focal length magnified shots (into ellipsis)
(ii) Arrows pointing to the 2 planets only, with labels. Triangles point to magnified shots.
(iii) No distracting magnified shots. The original 200mm focal length shot without any cropping. The 2 planets only labeled and the apparent angular distance between them.

"Spent the most part of last night attempting to photograph the huge storm that rolled over Geelong. I say 'attempting' because in total I got 4 shots with lightning in them, and of the 4 only 2 were usable. I seemed lucky enough to miss the majority of strikes in the 3 seconds I took to fix a composure shots between 30 second photos.
I spent a couple of hours at Black Rock watching it roll over, and whilst I watched the intense storm to the left, I was treated to an incredible sunset to the right of which I'll share in due time."
Located on Tongaporutu beach, the 3 sisters are a couple of rock (formerly 4, only 2 remains) formations.
I left Tongariro National Park around 4.30pm after Hiking the Alpine crossing, and a 3 hours drive was necessary to reach Tongaporutu beach and the 3 sisters site. I drove as fast as I was allowed to, but I finally arrived 5 minutes too late, the sun already disappeared. Unfortunately, the car park was not nearby the site, and a 10 minutes walk was necessary to reach this amazing place for sunset.
I ran as fast as I could in the black sand and slippery rocks (I even lost one part of my right shoe during the sprint), the fishermen already there probably made fun of me… A few seconds to discover the site, find a framing (could have been much better…), prepare the tripod and manage the camera settings to catch the very last lights of the day.

I have been busy over the past week (annual leave) painting several batches of custom figures for sale on eBay. I am uploading them for 2 reasons.

Paul Anka (1941) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and actor. Anka became famous in the late 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s with hit songs like 'Diana' (1957), 'Lonely Boy' (1959), 'Put Your Head on My Shoulder' (1959), and '(You're) Having My Baby' (1974). He wrote the theme for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and the English lyrics for Frank Sinatra's signature song, 'My Way' (1969). He also appeared in such films as The Longest Day (1962).
Paul Albert Anka was born in Ottawa, Ontario, in 1941. His parents, Camelia and Andy Anka owned a restaurant called the Locanda, that was popular with local entertainers. He taught himself to play guitar and piano as a teen and formed a vocal group called the Bobbysoxers with friends that performed locally in Ottawa. Paul Anka recorded his first single, I Confess when he was 14. In 1957 he went to New York City where he auditioned for Don Costa at ABC. He sang the original song Diana (1957). He was quickly offered a recording contract, and Diana rocketed to #1 on the Canadian and U.S. music charts. With dales of more than 20 million copies, Diana is one of the best-selling singles ever by a Canadian recording artist. He followed up with four songs that made it into the Top 20 in 1958, including It's Time to Cry, which hit #4. Only 17, he was one of the biggest teen idols of the time. He toured Britain, then Australia with Buddy Holly. Anka wrote for him It Doesn't Matter Anymore, which Holly recorded just before he died in 1959. Anka's next hit Puppy Love (1960) was inspired by his girlfriend Annette Funicello.
Paul Anka hit the Italian market with Summer's Gone in 1960. It was released as Dove Sei. The record got immediate success, reaching #4 on Italian hit lists. His top hit was Ogni Giorno which scored #1 in 1962, followed by Piangerò per te and Ogni Volta, which reached both #2, in 1963 and 1964. Ogni volta (Every Time) was sung by Anka during the Festival di Sanremo of 1964 and then sold more than one million copies in Italy alone. Anka's talent also included the theme for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, which was reworked in 1962 from a song Anka wrote earlier. Anka composed Tom Jones's biggest hit record, She's a Lady (1971), and wrote the English lyrics to Frank Sinatra's signature song My Way (1969). It was originally the French song Comme d'habitude, and My Way has been covered by many including Elvis Presley. In the 1960s Anka began acting in motion pictures as well as writing songs for them, most notably the theme for the hit film The Longest Day (Ken Annakin a.o., 1962). For his film work, he wrote and recorded one of his greatest hits, Lonely Boy (1959). Like most North American recording artists, he saw his career stalled by the British Invasion. By the late 1960s, his career focused on adult contemporary and big-band standards, played regularly in Las Vegas.
After more than ten years without a top 25 hit record, Paul Anka teamed up in 1974 with Odia Coates to record the #1 hit, (You're) Having My Baby. The two would record two more duets that made it into the Top 10, One Man Woman/One Woman Man (#7) and I Don't Like to Sleep Alone (#8). In 1983, he co-wrote the song I Never Heard with Michael Jackson. It was retitled and released in 2009 under the name This Is It. An additional song that Jackson co-wrote with Anka from this 1983 session, Love Never Felt So Good, was since discovered and was released on Jackson's posthumous album Xscape in 2014. The song was also released by Johnny Mathis in 1984. Paul Anka became a naturalized US citizen in 1990. Anka was married to Anne de Zogheb, the daughter of a Lebanese diplomat, Charles de Zogheb, from 1963, until 2001. They have five daughters. In 2008, Anka married his personal trainer, Anna Åberg, in Sardinia. They divorced in 2010 and share custody of their son, Ethan. An autobiography, 'My Way' (co-written with David Dalton), was published in 2013.

4) ONLY BRATZ! No 2013 bodies are allowed either. You can use any body (Movie/Catz/Party/Standard), though, Movie bodies are preferred. I would also prefer the older versions of the Bratz, if possible. But if you don't have an older-version Bratz, or a posable body, it's perfectly fine. :)
5) You can have the hair anyway you like. :)
6) Please include the model's name and age in the description box, and you can add anything else if you'd like.

Melbourne is still in Covid lockdown Stage 4 - only allowed 1 hour per day to exercise. No one is allowed out after 8.00pm - pretty draconian compared to other states - but worth the pain if it means safety and less people suffering. We got up early to beat the now crowded pathways and clocked up a few km's on the bikes - decided to build a fire and crack a red as a reward. An Italian red, big and juicy.
Bald cardinals and jays are reported nearly every year in the late summer. Without feathers on the head, the bird resembles a tiny vulture. At the time, the feathers on the rest of the body are usually dull and worn looking.
Suggestions have been made that this could be due to a problem with the diet or an infestation of mites or caused by a disease. Another idea is that it is just the way that particular bird molts. It drops all the feathers on its head at one time instead of losing them gradually as do most birds of the same species. This matter has not been studied carefully. However
There are several things that we know.
1. It is observed most often with blue jays and cardinals.
2. When we can recognize adults and young, it is the adults that
show this condition.
3. Such birds are usually spotted in the summer.
4. Only a small percentage of each species shows this condition.
On the basis of the information summarized below, It could be concluded that in most cases it is related to the way certain individual birds molt their head feathers. For those particular birds it is their normal process, but it differs from the way most individuals of their species undergo the molt.
Among the blue jays, cardinals and grackles there are occasional individuals that shed most of their head feathers all at once.
Within a week, much of the bare skin will be covered and in two weeks the head will be covered with feathers again.
A bird that loses all the feathers on its head simultaneously is the exception, and such a bird is very conspicuous, but not very often seen.
Well, I saw this Blue Jay in my backyard. It seemed healthy and seemed to act normal. It was just bald.

WEEK 17 – Collierville Houston Levee Kroger (I)
Leaving the perishables grand aisle/service department island and jumping over to the back wall now, here’s our first view down the rear actionway of the store. Like I said: the dark colors continue through a good portion of the place, haha! But as we’ll see, there are some lighter elements in at least two major areas closer to the left side of the store (although even then, you could argue those colors are dark compared to the same family of colors as implemented in other décor packages, both within Kroger and at other chains).
I’ve been talking a whole lot about the design of the décor so far, so now I feel it’s a good time to take a step back and ask y’all what you think about it so far. Do you like it? Hate it? Don’t care either way? I’m curious; talk to me!

An STP working caught my eye on Sunday morning as I was going to be visiting family in Stafford, the 0900 Derby R.T.C.(Network Rail) to Crewe T.M.D. (E) working on RTT, due at Stafford at 11.25. Plenty of time, I thought as I walked into the station and onto platform 3 / 4, only to see 67023 ‘Stella’ in the Goods Loop. Ahhh, that’s not it, it’s due through platform 5 and it should be trailing 245 tons. Turns out it was it and it was light engine, no load. Revved up and moved of just as I made my way along the platform, so I only got a going away shot that contains too much platform furniture. On the up side, the first time I have got a shot of 67023 since it was sold to Colas. Sunday 8th April 2018.
