Devoted to the sonic mapping of the shore of the Adriatic Sea, this event offers audiences a chance to immerse themselves in the under/above water soundscapes of the historic landmark where they had been sent out torpedoes, which is connected with the identity of Rijeka. The workshop aims to introduce participants to the sonic mapping of coastal regions. It will also include a practical in situ lecture/presentation about the disturbing human presence in underwater acoustics and other experiences, as well as listening to the bioacoustics of aquatic environments above and under the waves at the shores. Both mentors will share their expertise in sound recording, location-based sonic mapping and above /underwater soundscapes.

Zapesynthnica is a synthesizer on a bracelet. “Stepped-tone generator” is the official name of the synthesizer based on the 555 chip, and its author Forrest Mims called it the “Sound Synthesizer” in 1982, later it got the name by which most people know it today: the Atari punk console. And Zapesynthnica is an old idea in a new form. In the workshop, participants will make a wearable sound system that is simple to make, but can provide hours of fun thanks to the possibility of controlling it with light.

he workshop on dyeing T-shirts with pine bark is designed with the aim of preserving and transferring knowledge about the traditional skill of dyeing fishing nets with natural pigment, which will be applied in this case to dyeing white cotton T-shirts. This process was widespread and common along the Croatian coast until the mid-20th century when the arrival of synthetic nets in our markets diminished its importance and gradually led to its oblivion.
Greasing of nets served a dual purpose: to impregnate the nets and make them more resistant to the effects of the sea and salt, but also to dye them in a dark red color to make them as inconspicuous and effective as possible in the sea. The process we will reconstruct in the workshop begins with grinding pine bark with wooden hammers and collecting and sieving the ground bark to extract the fine dust, which is then boiled in seawater. After boiling, the mixture is filtered through fine fabric, and the dye is ready for application.
