Setup and Day 1 - Sorry it's blurry.

Makibox = 3D printer for 200 USD! The catch is that you have to assemble it yourself. The more well known MakerBot is a 3D printer for 2500 USD although that printer does come assembled.

I am thinking of getting one. The 200 is definitely a chewable R&D cost. Its founder Jonathan Buford is based in Hong Kong so I figured that if I failed miserably in my assembly there is at least someone close by to give me some help.

Will let you know how it goes once my order is in. I figured that if I successfully got this to work I can probably graduate from geekdom into nerddom so it would be a very worthy thing to do.

"Held together with twine and hope" should be the way this is described.

I have blogged about the beginning of my journey with the printer: shawn.dewolfe.bc.ca/blog/3d-printer-part-01.html

3D Printer Shootout Testing - Day 3

Dia 1 - abrir la caja con las partes

I reworked this image as a bit darker than the one I uploaded this morning.

Camera used for this shot was the Pinhead 3D printed pinhole camera - focal length = 90mm with a 0.40mm pinhole, using Ilford Ortho Plus @64ASA, processed in D76 stock solution. Neg was scanned, imported into Lightroom and finished with the Silver Efex Pro2 plugin.

A gift - 3D printer squirrel to match my zoom background screen. We think we will call him Curio! Another contract at the school board completed!
