Photographs in and around Midford, a small village around five miles south of Bath in Somerset, on a sunny and not too cold 2 November 2021.

An arch of a viaduct that carried the line from Limpley Stoke (on the Bathampton to Westbury line) to Camerton and on to Hallatrow, on the Frome to Bristol line. The western section from Hallatrow to Camerton opened on 1 March 1882 for passengers and for goods, but it was not a commercial success. It was not until 9 May 1910 that the Great Western Railway extended the line through Midford to Limpley Stoke, the main traffic being coal from pits in the valley.

Passenger trains ran with little patronage, and the service ceased on and from 22 March 1915. Restored as an experimental service on 9 July 1923, passenger trains then ran until 12 September 1925, when they were permanently withdrawn, that date seeing abandonment of the section from Camerton to Hallatrow. Goods and mineral trains ran on the remainder of the line until 15 February 1951.

A last service was to be performed by the line, one which brought it to the attention of the world, with the 1953 filming of the 'Titfield Thunderbolt', where villagers refused to accept the withdrawal of 'their' train services and were determined to run their own, thus creating one of the best known 'Ealing Comedies'.
