Here's a MR 38 flare pattern showing white chalk-like residue. Flame is just about finished.

38. Opening isolated communities: a cable car in Medellin gives residents of a poor area who were formerly isolated access to the whole city below.
This is my new 3.38 diff, opened and checked inside (no signs of wear - Sierra diffs are usually bomb proof), sand blasted, and fitted with new seals, ready to be installed for less than £100
Note the slightly different input flange from the previous 3.62: apparently this is an early diff as it has a dust shield fitted.
(I also learned that you can distinguish a 7 inch from a 7.5 inch: the former top casting exposes the bolt - as can be seen here, so mine is 7" and the bolt passes through the diff: the 7.5" has two shorte bolts)
I have now re-installed the new diff along with the engine/diff/radiator/prop/handbrake, and the gearstick.
Edit: I have also learned that Ford went to great lengths to build high quality diffs in the early Sierra, using special spacers to achieve the precise mesh between crown wheel and pinion. The build quality is much better than in late models, so I have struck lucky here with this early diff. It should be nice and quiet.

I bought a 3.14 diff after 5 years of looking for one at a sensible price, and will replace the 3.38. Thi will reduce the gearing by a further 7%, and bring the final drive back to the same as the donor BMW: it will reduce engine revs by 200rpm at 70mph.
Last night Eric was envisioning our room rearranged, saying how he would like it a different way so he could put a armoire turned office in there, and have his own spot in the house to work. So, this morning after he went to work, I rearranged.
Such a satisfying feeling.
Day 38. Super busy at work today. To many projects to attempt over the next 3 days before my next business trip. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish them.
On a lighter note, I came home to find that Anmaree and just finished doing some light grocery shopping. She said that she bought "girl beer" because it was the cheapest.
Random fact: I have never gotten drunk off of church wine.
