Intercity special trains long weekend charter the "West Highlander" was well overdue so I took a chance and set off from Glen Falloch to see if I could find it and eventually came across it coming over the top at County March summit. Alas, not behind a tidy looking 37/4 but a 37/0 in what I considered the worst loco livery of all time. I assumed the delay had been down to a previous loco failure and 37088 was the only spare at Fort Bill. At least it was cleanish 37088 "Clydesdale" Fort William to Edinburgh 7th June 1992..... time is a great healer.

On a very misty evening, May 14th 1981 the 15.18 Croft - Leyton CCE ballast is diverted into Whitemoor behind 25248. This was probably to more easily facilitate a change of locomotive, as it more usually recessed in March Up Yard. A Class 31 being likely to have taken the train forward to Leyton.

It was quite a good day for 25s as later at the station, 25287 + 25289 passed through on the 16.20 Kennett - Mountsorrel empties. On the left of this picture 47271 is about to go up into Whitemoor to re-engine the 15.52 Ipswich - Paisley speedlink which had arrived with 37088.

25248 only had 18 months left in traffic before withdrawal.
