Elf Owl, Micrathene Whitney, 5.75 in / 14.61 cm. UNCOMON and local in open dry woodlands and patches of dense, brushy vegetation along desert washes, often associated with large cactus such as Giant Saguaro. Nests and roosts in cavities such as old woodpecker holes. Nocturnal.

Arizona Sycamore, Platanus wrightii, 82 ft / 25m. Native tree in riparian habitats of the Madera Sky Islands. Southeast Arizona, Extreme Southwest New Mexico and Northern Sonora, Mexico.
