A visit to Portmeirion, the Italian style village designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis on the shores of the estuary of the Afon Dwyryd, two miles south of Porthmadog. Work started in 1925 and continued until 1975, with the whole site now controlled by a charitable trust.
Within the site are a hotel and self-catering accommodation, whilst outside the main complex is Castell Deudraeth, in 1988 converted to a hotel.
Tule Elk, endemic to California, bellows it out at Point Reyes National Seashore. I think I was a little early to see all the rutting action, but the boys were clearly rounding up their ladies. This big bull is making his intentions known to any other bull in hearing distance, and he did have a fair-sized herd already gathered. I might add the Tule is the smallest of the several elk species - this guy should be in the bull weight class of around 450-500 pounds.
