CRR 3632 and 800 pull the northbound Santa Train Deadhead out of Sandy Ridge Tunnel on the Kingsport Sub.
I had a much needed and wonderful escape from reality today at one of my favorite wildlife places. It was pretty breezy and it was interesting watching this our smallest falcon balance on her stick. She was pretty patient with me and let me even move the rolling blind for better positioning with the light direction. Maybe she was just relaxing after finishing off a good meal - she needs a little cleanup on her toes and her pretty face.
It's been awhile since I've had some quality kestrel time. Mighta lasted even longer but for a pair of somewhat clumsy Cattle Egrets who kinda blew her off her perch. It was a good reminder how much we need our wild nature places to renew our spiritual condition and add balance to our lives.
ANSH 122 #13 "Smoke"
This is smoke pouring out of a chimney starter, used (at least here in the US) for lighting charcoal for grilling outside. For those unfamiliar, this is a somewhat large metal tube with a wire mesh "bottom. This bottom is actually several inches above the lower rim, and is stuffed with wadded up paper (newsprint or packing paper for me). The rest of the tube is filled with charcoal, and the paper is ignited. since the design draws air up through the tube, the paper fire generates enough heat to ignite the charcoal, and the whole thing then burns until the charcoal is ready to be spread out in the grill. It works very well, and saves a bit of lighter fluid fumes from getting into the air. I'm actually not sure if the smoke from the paper is any better though.
