The Olympus 35 DC has the same six element 40mm f1.7 lens, body and rangefinder as the Olympus 35 RC but is AE only and offers no manual override. Although this can be limiting to some extent, I like the fact that all you have to do is focus, point and shoot. I have both the 35 RC and 35 SP but have a soft spot for the DC.

La única cosa que hemos podido ver estos días. Y suficiente.

The only thing we could see these days. Enough.

remember when we never had to remember, when times were better?

My Volkswagen models.

I saw something incredible last night in Old Town Pasadena. It was a showcase of poetry and art. The show is called "Indelible Ink". It happens every last Tuesday of the month (except December) at POP Champagne Bar. If you're in town, please come out to the next show. You will love it.

I forgot how much I loved poetry...and my guitar...and performing...

Canadian Pacific Train 142-24 approaches Mile Post 35 on the Moosehead Subdivision, west of Greenville Jct, ME. This part of the subdivision follows the south shore of Moosehead Lake from Greenville to Moosehead.

At the time CP was down to just a handful of trains on the Moosehead per week, with just mixed freight. On this day 142 just had less than 30 cars.

the boy had a snow day (it didn't snow; the husband got a noon start because of ice!), so we spent the morning painting Valentines for his classmates. Afterward, I grabbed a blank sheet and started with lines. He added hearts. I wrote "love" in cursive, so he wrote it twice in his adorable handwriting. He outlined my hearts, I outlined his. It was a collaboration of the best kind.

We had a last minute opportunity to take "The North Pole Express" (the Pere Marquette 1225 steam locomotive) yesterday. It was a fun family trip - an hour train ride, two hours in a Christmas village, and an hour back.

Barney was one of the workers manning the locomotive. A reservoir of a tremendous amount of knowledge of steam engines, he explained fascinating details to anyone with a question. For example, the boiler contains 7,000 gallons of water and takes about two days to heat up enough to run the train. Also, in the days when steam locomotives were in use on the railroads, each engine took about 30 men to maintain it at all times.

Barney said that he has been working on steam engines for about 30 years, since childhood. He has been with the Pere Marquette 1225 for twelve years. He and his father have four small steam engines that they bring around the country for various shows and uses.

He was a great sport when I explained the project and asked to take his photograph. I gave him a business card, so hopefully he will be able to look this up and can see how awesome it turned out.

The theme this week for the 52 Weeks group is "edited by someone else." We exchanged a RAW image photo and gave the person freedom to edit it any way they wished.

I traded photos with Melanie Wolczuk

www.flickr.com/photos/melbaczuk/

My challenge was to take this already great seascape and somehow enhance it rather than taking away from it. I also didn't want to "flip switches" in Photoshop for the sake of flipping switches - I wanted a purpose for each edit.

(see the original image in comments below)

1. I darkened the mood hoping to enhance the detail, especially in the water and sky.

2. I darkened the water, particularly the bright spots to move the eyes away from those areas and towards the detail area in the horizontal thirds of the shot.

3. I cropped the image to landscape, sacrificing the tree overhang, but moving the subject detail into the thirds and enhancing the wide open space.

4. I accented the boat reflections to highlight the subject

5. I created a subtle vignette to move the eyes toward the center

6. I brought out more detail in the background trees, especially in the subject area.

7. Finally, I saturated the color of the bridge to help balance out the red boat on the left.

Thanks for sharing your photo Mel!
