N&W northbound #124 "City of Decatur" with Wabash combine in consist at Ashburn crossing. An unrepainted car - diner/lounge? - follows the Geep towards Dearborn Station. The car behind it appears to be originally Nickel Plate but relettered; NKP had their own distinctive font for lettering.

A male Gadwall wheels low above the water in front of the photographer, giving out his loud, nasal, single-syllable call. When I lived on the West Coast, these ducks were fairly elusive; here on the prairie they are a common sight, and most summers I get good photo ops. Occasionally I even manage to keep them in focus.
