The Hooded Mergansers are so much fun to watch when they are in fishing mode. If they aren't being chased by one of their peers, they take the step to de-leg their crusty prey. Just takes a few jerks, sometimes it gets away from them for a moment.

Working their way around Brulé Lake, this early morning scene sees CN 3269 westbound through Swan Landing at mile 197 on the Edson Sub.

Nearing the crew change point at Jasper, CN 3269 and "The J" heritage unit 3023 are in charge of this westbound intermodal as they roll through the curves at English, mile 233 on the CN's Edson Sub.

Ride to Sooke with Rhymeswithbombs

Fungi season off to an early start with several species pushing their fruiting bodies up through the ground. This I think is the blusher, Amanita rubescens, although the red staining is not obvious in this image.
