I had a lot of fun jumping and stamping my foot in puddles to get this shot! I would have liked the splash to be sharper, but they were very muddy puddles and a bit of childish behaviour always improves the mood on a gloomy day :-)

8:31 31 Day Photo Challenge, From a High Angle

ODC, On The Road

I was standing on top of building (there are stairs to the upper area, so no scaling or climbing involved) to get my "From A High Angle" shot for my 31 Day Photo Challenge when this girl cycled past me - et voila, 2 challenges done!

7DOS, Week #50 - In The Garden, Unusual PoV Tuesday - okay, this is more gardens than garden, but I'ver resorted to an archived shot not just because of the dearth of gardens in my current location, but because I'm finding myself feeling really nostalgic for greener, milder climes and large vistas, at the moment (it being dry, sandy and hot around here) and this is definitely a qualifier for an "unusual PoV" as it's taken from the top of a ferris wheel (just over a year ago). Taken as part of a 31 Day mini-photo challenge in May 2013 . 25:31 − 31 Day Photo Challenge, From A Distance - I know it's a 31 Day Challenge, but how many times does anyone get to view a centuries-old German castle from the top of 38m tall Ferris Wheel (and be the only people on said Ferris Wheel)?! View "Part Un" here www.flickr.com/photos/globalnomad01/8816095149/

We just went for a bit of a wonder today and lo-and-behold there was a Ferris Wheel in the grounds of the castle in our nearby town/village (who knows why) and there was no one waiting to ride it - no one on it in fact, so we took advantage of the opportunity and it was well worth it for this incredible view. It started to rain just as we finished our ride, so perfect timing.

The Flickr Lounge, Vintage - this Schloss, the Schloss Neuhaus, is a good few hundred years old and the ornate gardens seen here are just a small part of the castle's original Baroque gardens of the mid-1700s.

ODC, Launch - a massive stretch, Yvonne, but Mr Nomad actually joined LG and me on the Ferris Wheel, which is a Big First as he hates heights :-) It was definitely a launch into the void for him, so I'm really proud that he got into that little, dangling-over-fresh-air-attached-to-not-much gondola and even looked over the edge at this amazing view :-).

Blast from the past! I discovered these whilst looking for inspiration for various challenges. They were taken in Cape Town (South Africa), many more years ago than I care to think about, by the very talented and creative Jillian Lochner, now based in London.

Fast forward, ooh, from the 20th to the 21st Century, and this is me now, LOL! www.flickr.com/photos/globalnomad01/8900498486/

Inspired by Lenka's song "Everything At Once!" - see the immediately previous triptych ifor context www.flickr.com/photos/globalnomad01/8855411724/ It's been raining again, so anything to keep LG entertained; Playing with face paints and throwing moves like Lenka led to this :-) We both like this song and video so this is LG's homage to it!

Happy Days - 100 Likes for my Facebook page :-) !!!

Visit me on Facebook at www.facebook.com/LyndaHPhotography I will be doing a few portrait shoots (yes, actual paid bookings) over the next few weeks, which I'll be posting on my Facebook page, as well as another challenge over the summer. I'll also share the results with my Flickr friends who don't do FB :-)

So today is the end of this particular challenge and this is the one I've been dreading as I really don't enjoy doing Selfie's. I'd hoped for decent weather so I could stage something relaxed outdoors, but guess what? Yup, it's raaaaiining again, oh no, etc (cue Supertramp's big hit). Anyhooo, I opted for this clichéd pose-with-coffee mug, which acted as both prop and barrier, haha, as it's the one that makes me cringe the least. I suppose getting comfortable in front of the camera is an ongoing project, which is ironic (I refer you to yesterday's post of an image from, ooh, the last century, LOL! www.flickr.com/photos/globalnomad01/8888859135/).

Hope y'all have a lovely weekend.

ODC, Mother & Beginning With The Letter R

The Flickr Lounge, Beverage (LG does love her tea!)

Whilst considering this challenge (my 31DPC challenge) I thought about man possible set-ups and compositions. I also thought about how challenging life would be if I didn't have the use of my hands; how much that I take for granted would be difficult if not impossible - like holding a cup of tea. A reminder to be grateful for the seemingly ordinary? You can visit me at www.facebook.com/LyndaHPhotography to see more of my work.

Our resident princess is rather poorly today so I've kept her home from school. Her actual name (as opposed to LG) begins with R and she's in need of a little Mother(ing), a.k.a. tea, sympathy and Scooby Doo DVDs, so I'll catch up with everyone's posts and comments later :-)

28:31 − 31 Day Photo Challenge, Something Pink

ODC, Golden Hour - taken a slightly before the actual golden hour as there was it was a sunny day today (hip, hip, hooray) and edited as it was a bit miserable at the actual golden hour and the forecast for the next 6 days is…. rain, lots of rain!!!

It took a LOT of coercion to get this shot - LG was sooo not in the mood for schmodelling or being in any way co-operative about anything, lol. She has, somehow, managed to convey both a smile and an I'm-so-over-this attitude in her expression :-)

This train rushing past is a bit of a metaphor for the past week. I'm afraid that I'm just not going to manage my ODC challenge today as there aren't enough hours in the day this week. I hope to manage it tomorrow, or even a twofer - cue desperate laughter from the wings. Fingers crossed all this activity will lead to something positive!

ODC, Fan (of jelly beans, especially the watermelon flavoured ones, although I won't eat actual watermelon, lol!)

Not technically my best shot, but definitely my favourite of the day; the sun was shining, we went for a long cycle ride and just as LG needed an energy boost her daddy surprised her with a little treat :-)

7DOS, Week #46 Windows and/or Doors, Black & White Wednesday - This was taken at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg (Germany) almost exactly 1 year ago. I remember this particular day really clearly as Mr Nomad very kindly took the time to drive all the way to Wolfsburg with me (a good 2hrs+ from where we lived) just to see a retrospective of Steve McCurry's work; it was quite a journey getting there as there were a lot of road works en route and the rain was torrential all the way there! I'm happy to say it was absolutely worth it though, not just to see the work of a photographer I admire in the flesh, as it were, but to see the other exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum at the time. To me architecture is as much about interaction as it is about function. No building, like no person, exists in isolation and how a man-made structure interacts with its environment is just as important to an architect, and the people who use the structure, as the function of the structure, despite some examples to the contrary. To my mind few architects embody this ethos in the way that late, great Frank Lloyd Wright did, but here I am at risk of digression.

First and foremost a building has purpose (home, office, shop, museum, school, etc), but it also creates an environment in which we exist and it, in turn, exists in a larger environment. Interaction does not just occur between people, but between the natural and the man-made world and the architect, particularly a good one, has the ability to create synergy between these two environments; the next time you're in a space that feels comfortable, take a moment to look around and consider it in the context of its purpose, its location and its construction and I'll bet that there is synergy between the internal and external environments, that it is easy to move around in and that the purpose for which it was designed is so obvious you don't even notice it.

Not what I'd hoped to achieve for today's challenge, but I'm still at home with an ill child and my photo-mojo is a little challenged today. Halfway with this challenge, whoop-whoop!

Orchids, or awkwards as I've dubbed them, never seem to survive Chez Nomad, but this plucky purple specimen has been with us for nearly 11 months and has not only survived, but has new buds and flowers. Clearly it thrives on near neglect :-)

The Flickr Lounge, Signs of Spring

I still need to catch up on Day 16 of this Challenge - bit of a fail in that I've not managed it yet (nor today's ODC Challenge nor Flickr Lounge… lol).

This same view features in 2 pictures from earlier this year, taken on 14th and 21st January respectively, the former made it into Explore and can be seen here www.flickr.com/photos/globalnomad01/8380142722/. Today was rather wet, like most of the past week, and it's incredible how lush and verdant the woods and areas around this lake have become in just 7 days.

5:31 − 31DPC, A Bad Habit

Flickr Lounge, Best Shot of Day Sunday

LG does not appreciate my Bad Habit of always having my camera to hand and always wanting to photograph her, so I was really pleased to get a sneaky shot of her chilling out in the Spring sunshine listening to (I suspect) Katy Perry or Miley Cyrus or some such.

or not so much. This is a bit of a fail and not what I wanted at all. I meant to get something a bit "bigger", more environmental, and this was my back-up shot. Shall have to try again another day :-)

The Flickr Lounge - grrr, anyone else having problems with their tags? Mmine have disappeared and things are not uploading straight to groups even though I select them on my Upload page!!!

Had a lovely day with my OH today. It was wet, cold and grey, but we still drove all the way to Wolfsburg (about 2hr20 from us) just to visit the amazing Kunstmuseum to see the Steve McCurry exhibition "In The Flow Of Time: Asia from 1980-2011" and the powerfully evocative Christian Boltanski installation "Movement" (see www.kunstmuseum-wolfsburg.de for more on both). Totally worth it!!!

7DOS, Week #31 - Sweet and/or Sour, Shoot Anything Saturday - one from last year (2013), which I thought fitting for this weekend. Thank you in advance for any comments and/or favourites and apologies for not responding in kind, but I'm a bit busy at the moment. I probably won't be posting much to the group next week as it's going to be particularly crazy, but hope to post an image a day on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LyndaHPhotography

Because we're probably both slightly bonkers, Sue a.k.a. www.flickr.com/photos/46534600@N06/ and I are undertaking another self-generated challenge starting next week and continuing until mid-September. It'll be a weekly one (to save our sanity) and we'll both be posting the results on our pages - and where appropriate to a group theme, to a Flickr group.

Cookbook: Beautiful Images

Being keen cooks Mr Nomad and I like to collect random bits of kitchenalia. Luckily his mother is both a very good cook and an even more avid collector of kitchenalia - she gave us this traditonal, terracotta butter dish which, I believe, once belonged to her mother. To keep the butter from melting on warmer days you lift the glass dish out and place some ice and water in the terracotta bowl and it acts as a "cooler". Very effective too!
