Su origen se remonta al antiguo Pazo de Lavandeira, construcción levantada hacia 1670, años después de la fundación del mayorazgo por el capitán Juan Tavares en 1665 (como recoge el escudo de armas de la fachada principal). Esta familia permanece en la propiedad hasta el siglo XVIII en que dejará paso a los Montenegro y a comienzos del XIX al marquesado de Valladares.
