TEPCE tram 310, Beaux Arts metro station, Charleroi. Friday 27 September 2024

TEPCE (Tramways Electriques du Pays de Charleroi et Extensions - Electrical tramways of the Charleroi region and extensions) was a subsidiary of another company and they ran trams in Charleroi 1904 – 1961 mainly in the centre and eastern part of the city. Their trams were often referred to as the “Green trams” or the “Town trams”

The other tramway company that ran in Charleroi (and most of Belgium) was the SNCV. Following a major restructure of public transport in Belgium in 1990 the SNCV was dissolved. A new company was formed and operations in the Charleroi area were delegated to the TEC (Transport en commun - Public transportation) who now operates the tramway.

At least three TEPCE trams are in Charleroi, Nos. 12 and 310 have been on display at the Beaux-Arts metro station for around 40 years and are not in the best of condition. 201 is at ‘La Bois de Cazier Industrial Museum and Glass Museum located at a former coalmine.

Spent some time patiently waiting for the sun to go down as I thought it was going to be an impressive light show. In the end it was a 'bit pink', but not much more...

The Veggie Garden

Rik dug the place where I want to grow the beans and peas and today I planted them. The soil is quite heavy clay and the ground slopes. I think the best way to turn this into a veggie garden will be to put raised beds in.

After watering them in I got changed and headed into town for the pub quiz. We came second ($50 bar tab) then the team went to Rik's office to watch the fireworks over the harbour (it's Guy Fawkes Night). It was a fabulous display and I loved the smiley faces and hearts that appeared in the sky. After the fireworks we went back to the Green Man (just next door) and spent our bar tab before getting a later train home.
