On the way through the Little Karoo over the Swartberg Mountains to the Great Karoo.

The Swartberg mountains (black mountain in Afrikaans) are a mountain range in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is composed of two main mountain chains running roughly east-west along the northern edge of the semi-arid Little Karoo. To the north of the range lies the other large semi-arid area in South Africa, the Great Karoo. Most of the Swartberg Mountains are above 2000 m high, making them the tallest mountains in the Western Cape. It is also one of the longest, spanning some 230 km from south of Laingsburg in the west to between Willowmore and Uniondale in the east. Geologically, these mountains are part of the Cape Fold Belt.
Much of the Swartberg is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Die Swartberge (afrikaans: Groot Swartberge) sind eine Gebirgskette in der Provinz Westkap, Südafrika. Sie gehören zum Kap-Faltengürtel. Der höchste Berg ist der Seweweekspoortpiek mit 2325 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel. Obwohl die Swartberge hauptsächlich aus rotem Gestein bestehen, lautet der Name übersetzt „schwarze Berge“. Erosion und Pflanzenbewuchs haben die Oberfläche dunkel gefärbt, aus großer Distanz sahen die Berge für die ersten Siedler schwarz aus.
Die Gebirgskette trennt die Große von der Kleinen Karoo.

A row of bungalows in Monkswood Gardens, Borehamood, boarded up and ready to be demolished. These are back to back with the ones in Balmoral Drive.

This is among the first images from my new Canon 30D DSLR camera, through a Takashi FSQ-106 telescope. This galaxy is 2.9 million light years from earth. Best viewed in the winter months. This is what our own Milky Way Galaxy is thought to look like. And all the pinpoint stars in the picture are actually part of our own Milky Way that are visible between us and the great void that separates our two galaxies.
Fresh from overhaul and repaint, Genesee & Wyoming Australia's CLF5 at Islington Workshops (Adelaide) on 23 November 2007.
CLF5 originally entered services with the Commonwealth Railways in July 1971 as CL12, and was built by Clyde Engineering in New South Wales .
Ownership transferred to Australian National Railways in 1978 and it was rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen Australia at Whyalla in 1993, re-entering service as CLF5. Now in service with Aurizon, still mainly in South Australia and The Northern Territory.
I was shopping at P’nP and I noticed this gentleman, I managed to overcome my shyness and embarrassment and asked if I can take few shots. It was not that difficult!

Front End Friday - Just over 10 years ago, CFCLA's Alco-powered 44208 and EMD-powered S300 were at the Canberra Railway Museum on 5 March 2015.
CFCLA was a rail leasing company that operated in Australia from 1998-2021, which then became Rail First asset Management. 44208 is now owned by milling company Manildra, while S300 is privately owned.
