So here are some shots of my Majora's Mask Link Nendoroid. The usual comments apply - it's cute, clean paint apps, decently articulated, and has accessories that piss me off to take on and off.
What's more interesting is the story behind how I got it, and I believe it serves as good evidence as to why I should never be asked whether or not I want to game.
In case it isn't obvious by now, I live for bargain hunting. When it comes to life necessities for me and my family, well I bend over and take it like a champ. But when it comes to things like this, well, I justify my collecting as being cheaper than a smoking habit.
I may have mentioned that I travel quite frequently for my work, and as a result am able to take advantage of regional pricing, shall we say.
Well last August I was in Calgary, and on the night before I left I thought I ended up with a good deal - $20 bucks for a Majora's Mask Nendoroid. Great, right?
In case my foreshadowing sucked, the answer is.. no, not really.
While the set was complete and minty, it turned out to be a knockoff. I guess I didn't quite check it overly carefully, but considering I've gotten deal much crazier than $20 for a figure like this, especially for one that isn't particularly rare, I honestly didn't think that this would be the first Knockoff I unwittingly bought.
So right now, you must be thinking "Dude, you've been collecting for over 2 decades - one Knockoff in that entire time period is actually pretty damn good".
Well, the story gets a bit more interesting.
Fast forward to a few weeks again, and I see yet another Majora's Mask Link Nendoroid for $20, but this time it's in Toronto. I meet up with the guy, and find out it's missing one of the accessories.. not great, but not essential. So I buy it.
Then I find out not only is one of the tips on the Majora's mask chipped, but also, that the adapter needed to put it on his face is actually missing. I've ended up having to take parts out of the Knockoff to make this one functional, though fortunately it's nothing that is too noticeable.
So overall, I've spent $40, traveled over 4,000 km, gotten two sets of this thing, and STILL don't actually have a complete authentic set.
Overall, the moral of the story is if the guy upstairs doesn't want to give you a win, it ain't happening.
