The LEGO Gymnasts get to play mini-golf after their morning training session. They're happy to get out of the gym for awhile and enjoy the beautiful spring scenery :-) It's already starting to get hot and humid here, so it's good that they got out to enjoy the nicer weather.

I started with the LEGO Friends Mini Golf Polybag (30203) and added the trees, flowers etc to make the scene :-)

Clean, green and efficient but ageing EFs 30071 and 30203 with DXB 5016 dead in tow bring a lengthy train 225 around the volcanic plateau in the middle of the North Island Main Trunk in the rain.

While the current government shows no stinginess in pouring billions into new roading projects, it thinks a far more sensible approach with rail is to revert this line to diesels. The alternative would be to overhaul these thirty year old Brush-built locos and add 80kms of wire to electrify the railway between Te Rapa with Pukekohe.

Such is the short-sightedness of the Beehive's current incumbents. Oh, and by the way they won't remove the overhead... instead keeping it powered to prevent theft. Brilliant.

The section of the North Island Main Trunk between Te Rapa and Palmerston North is electrified and some of the freight trains on this section are hauled by the EF Class electrics, whilst others are hauled by diesels (avoiding the need to switch locomotives twice between Auckland and Wellington).

In December 2016, it was announced that the class were to be withdrawn and replaced with DL Class diesel-electric locomotives.
