Global Warming versus Metallic Rooftops and Skylights

Regular Skylights make it more difficult for your air conditioner to cool your house;

a two-by-four-foot clear glass skylight requires 240 extra kilowatt hours of electricity every year, enough to power the average television.

The Department of Energy has introduced an initiative to encourage the installation of smarter solar energy systems on one million roofs by the year 2010.

If successful, it will reduce carbon emissions every year by an amount equal to that produced by 850,000 cars.

Metallic Roofs and Dome-like Skylights reflect solar light from the daylight sun without the excessive heat gain of traditional skylights.

This alternative lighting method brightens your interiors with free, renewable energy natural light.

As energy savers, they contribute to AC load reduction and reduce electrical consumption.

Whether you are building new construction or remodeling existing, you can use sun lighting to save on those power bills.

Natural solar lighting are a great choice for commercial and residential day lighting.

Reflective surfaces, like glaciers, reduce heat.

Scientists predict that if global warming continues at its present rate, by 2030 there will be no more glaciers in Montana's Glacier National Park.

Save our country's natural resources so we can become more self-sufficient and consider reflective solar lighting for your home ☆.

I made this stone Inukshuk in the garden area today for this composition ; )

The rock formation shape originates from the art structures that were first created by the Arctic Inuit people:

The Inuit are among the first known people to inhabit portions of Arctic Canada, Alaska and Greenland.

The stone figure portrays the human form and is practical in the sense of its placement because it is used for navigation and as a hunting landmark.

'The Inuit elders were well-versed on forecasting the weather from the star colors that were peeking through the atmosphere, constellations and from elaborate cloud formations, however, with recent climate changes these predictions became less accurate and today scientists are collaborating with the Inuit for their unique insight in order to analyze some of these current changes.. "hmm..

did you know that our natural body heat can be used to power our mobile devices?"

fun facts:

The human core body temperature can produce about 100 microwatts of thermal energy! Science research proves that the human body as a warm object (at 98.6 degrees fahrenheit) is also a capable source of energy that can be harnessed to power a cell phone, a pacemaker or any other battery operated device

This idea is loosely based on the static electricity theory whereby one can prolong an alkaline battery by rubbing it in their hands, but in this technology the kinetic energy and the actual rubbing of the hands is the source scientists are tapping into.. read ☆ more

CENTRO BOTÍN Santander

Muelle de Albareda s/n, Jardines de Pereda, Santander, Cantabria, España

Arquitectos Renzo Piano -Renzo Piano Building Workshop RPBW -. Arquitectos Asociados Luis Vidal + Arquitectos. Proyecto 2010. Obras 2012-2017. Entorno: Cristina Iglesias escultora.

www.centrobotin.org/el-centro-botin/renzo-piano/

Three Levels of passive solar energy use for homes:

Pragmatic:

Many detached suburban houses can achieve reductions in heating expense without obvious changes to their appearance, comfort or usability.

This is done using good siting and window positioning, small amounts of thermal mass, with good but conventional insulation and occasional supplementary heat from a central radiator connected to a water heater.

Sunrays may fall onto a wall during the daytime, which will radiate heat in the evening.

Annualized:

Historically, most "passive solar" approaches have depended on near-daily solar capture and storage, only expected to maintain temperatures through a few days and nights. These are now termed "short-cycle passive solar".

More recent research has developed techniques to capture warm-season solar heat, convey it to a seasonal thermal store for use months later during the cool or cold season. This is referred to as "annualized passive solar." This requires large amounts of thermal mass. One technique buries water-proof insulation in 7-metre skirts around the foundation, and buries loops of plastic pipe or ducts under the foundations and slab. The "skirts" of insulation prevent heat leaks from weather or water.

Minimum machinery:

A "purely passive" solar-heated house would have no mechanical furnace unit, relying instead on energy captured from sunshine, only supplemented by "incidental" heat energy given off by lights, candles , other task-specific appliances (such as those for cooking, entertainment, etc.), showering, people and pets. The use of natural air currents (rather than mechanical devices such as fans) to circulate air is related, though not strictly solar design.
