Gulls or seagulls are seabirds of the family Laridae in the suborder Lari. They are most closely related to the terns (family Sternidae) and only distantly related to auks, skimmers, and more distantly to the waders. Gulls are typically medium to large birds, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking calls; stout, longish bills; and webbed feet. Most gulls are ground-nesting carnivores which take live food or scavenge opportunistically, particularly the Larus species. Live food often includes crabs and small fish. Gulls have unhinging jaws which allow them to consume large prey. Gulls are typically coastal or inland species, rarely venturing far out to sea, except for the kittiwakes. 30001

Following on from the 6 Volvo 9700E's delivered earlier in the year, Kilmarnock are now in the process of receiving their next batch of electric buses. 15 BYD bodied ADL E200's will shortly be entering service on the Kilmarnock local network, displacing some of the older E200's alongside some of the relatively new E200MMC's.

The artisan cheese shop "La Lechera de Burdeos" is a project implanted in the heart of Murcia with a clear objective: to promote the cheese culture and to bring raw milk cheeses to the general public. They are specialized in the sale of cheese from Spain and Europe, unique pieces that mature in the tasting pit. There, the cheeses are in conditions that mimic those of a natural cave, where the pieces are preserved and evolve to their point of maximum organoleptic splendor.
If you stay in Murcia you should not leave the city before visiting this wonderful cheese shop .. ;)))

Murcia (/ĖmŹÉrsiÉ/ or /ĖmÉĖrŹÉ/, Spanish: [Ėmuɾθja]) is a city in south-eastern Spain, the capital and most populous city of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, and the seventh largest city in the country, with a population of 442,573 inhabitants in 2009 (about one third of the total population of the Region). The population of the metropolitan area was 689,591 in 2010. It is located on the Segura River, in the Southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, noted by a climate with hot summers, mild winters, and relatively low precipitation.
Murcia was founded by the emir of Cordoba Abd ar-Rahman II in 825 with the name Mursiyah (Arabic: Ł Ų±Ų³ŁŲ©) and nowadays is mainly a services city and a university town. Highlights for visitors include the Cathedral of Murcia and a number of baroque buildings, renowned local cuisine, Holy Week procession works of art by the famous Murcian sculptor Francisco Salzillo, and the Fiestas de Primavera (Spring Festival).
The city, as the capital of the comarca Huerta de Murcia is called Europe's orchard due to its long agricultural tradition and its fruit, vegetable, and flower production and exports...

Well I would like to start by wishing everyone a Happy VE Day celebration, whatever you are up to I hope you enjoy the day with a drink or two :-)
I don't have any buses from 1945 to post so I have opted for our old favourite the VR with a decent line up in Penzance depot mid week afternoon before the afternoon school workings.
L to R are GBF78N, RTH931S, KOO785V, AFJ750T, VDV141S and KHX228X showing off a bit of Barbie, some WN, Flambards and GWR liveries -lovely!
It wouldn't be far wide of the truth to say that I'm not a big fan of the Bristol VR. It is therefore a type of bus which I'd never consider myself forking out to buy, even in preservation.
By a sad turn of events, and the loss of a good friend / preservationist and fellow Flickrite to Motor Neurones disease, I now own this one.
GBF 78N had been new to Stoke on Trent based PMT in the NBC era. Bizarrely it was later converted to open top for private hire and promotional use. However, when First Bus came along it was deeemed that it should be sent to Cornwall to assist similar buses on the Open Top services serving Penzance, St Ives and Lands End. Whilst there, its primitive specification was up-graded including a higher 'hp' engine, a five speed gearbox and power steering which transformed it.
Eventually withdrawal came and it was bought by Stoke based enthusiast Paul Pearson, and indeed the last time GBF 78N was out and about was for the purposes of a commemorative tour, taking Paul back to Penzance for one last run around the route he so liked. Since that time (2011), the VR has been stored in a barn ... until this week when we fetched it out and gave it a wash off in readiness for some proposed use in the not too distant future.

In 2021 Stagecoach made Ā£21.4m investment into 46 zero-emission buses introduced in Aberdeen, Perth and Kilmarnock as part of the Scottish Governmentās Ultra Low Emission Bus scheme with Ā£2.7m invested into Kilmarnock on these BYD D8UR Alexander Dennis Enviro 200EV's with similar examples forming a second batch in Perth, East Scotland.
It comes shortly after the introduction of six zero-emission Volvo 7900E buses for rural communities along the Irvine Valley to Kilmarnock, operated under partnership with SP Energy Networks which cost Ā£2m again through Scottish Governmentās Ultra Low Emission Bus scheme.

For several years of my involvement in the provision of a bus for the Bala Lake Railway's steam gala, I've stopped here and taken a picture of the vehicle concerned.
I took the open top VR the year before last (last year it was a newly restored Lodekka which went), and this year the lack of roof actually turned out to be a welcome thing as the sun shone . . . which is unusual for a Bank (Public) Holiday in Britain!
Ex PMT (and later Western National) GBF 78N is seen here in the Dee Valley about five miles west of Llangollen on the evening of Friday 22nd August 2025. The bus still carries the decals associated with its Cornish life based around Penzance. One day I'll get around to re-painting it, though into what livery I have yet to decide.
We can just about get the wires clear for northbound shots. A trainload of Mercedes from Sindelfingen to Bremerhaven. More high quality Germany exports!
First Devon & Cornwall's open top '30001' at the top of the climb from Tregeseal, having just before descended from St Just whose Methodist church can be seen in the background.
It was repainted in "Barbie 3" non-fades livery for the following season, 2007 was to be the last year of open top VR operation with First in Cornwall.
