The pier was built in 1900 as a landing stage for steamships that brought tourists from London[2] Clacton and Great Yarmouth until the 1930s.[3] It was 270 yards (250 m) in length and finished with a T-shaped end.

The ownership of the pier transferred from that of the Coast Development Company following its winding up in 1906, to The Amusement Equipment Company.[3]

The landing stage of the pier was destroyed during a storm in 1934, with the T-shaped end being swept away.[2] An addition to the pier of a concert hall and amusement arcade was made during 1937 at the shore end of the pier.[2]

During the Second World War the pier had a section removed due to the fear of its use during an invasion. Further damage occurred from an impact with a mine. The pier was rebuilt after the war at a cost of £30000.

Further damage caused by storms in October 1955[3] and February 1979[3] left the length of the pier at 20 yards (18 m).[2]

In 1960, a part of the pier pavilion was transformed into the Neptune Bar public house.[3]

Parts of the pier were further restored during 1987 where additional work was carried out to both the theatre and function room. After the reconstruction the pier then reopened in December 1988 , wikipedia

The city of Monte Alban was the capital of the Zapotecs. It was founded in the 5th century BC, and at its peak towards the 5th century AD, it had about 30,000 inhabitants.

It was then occupied by the Mixtecs in the 12th century, until the arrival of the conquistadors in the 16th century.

The site, built on top of a plateau overlooking the surrounding valleys, is spectacular.

Welcome

Over 30000 tons worth of a double grain train meanders 'down stream' through Palisade Canyon on Central Pacific's portion of the original transcontinental railroad.

The CP (SP) was later joined by the Western Pacific as both railroads treaded the Humboldt River through the Canyon. Following use by the USRA during WWI, the SP and WP paired their main tracks between Weso and Alazon (basically Winnemucca and Wells) with westbound trains using the SP and eastbounds on the WP. Today this arrangement largely remains the same but now under UP ownership.

Ghost

The clock it taunts me

Tells me I should be

30000 feet in the air but I'm only six feet

Still drowning in the thought

I'll never be enough

Looking at myself and thinking he doesn't deserve your love

I can't escape the feeling

I'm not human, it's just a subliminal act

I think I'm losing my mind

Working overtime

'Til my heartbeat stops on a dime

I think I saw a ghost

Staring back at me through the mirror

They're reaching through my soul

As I dissociate the feeling of feeling again

Nostalgic memories of my past haunt me at night

While nightmares of my future possess my mind

I'm staring at these walls I

Think I might go insane

How can I feel something

When nothings felt the same?

I guess it's wishful thinking

That I could live a life

Without the torment of my demons and their knives

I think I saw a ghost

Staring back at me through the mirror

They're reaching through my soul

As I dissociate the feeling of feeling again

I'm overthinking my whole life

'Til the point I feel numb inside

But I'm still an emotional softie

Can't handle it when I cry

I get overwhelmed with emotions

Feels like I'm lost with motion

I'll live my life in la vie en noir

Dansant avec les morts

I think I saw a ghost

Staring back at me through the mirror

Don't recognize myself

As I dissociate the feeling of feeling again

The plateau of central Tasmania is dominated by the great extent of dolerite lava flows that have then been exposed, and sculpted by glacial ice sheet that moved south to north leaving erratics and moraine on the north coast and in Bass Strait. The cliffs and summit of Mt Pelion West reveal the dolerite, which on the summit is a field of large irregular boulders which makes a traverse very difficult. The geology of Tasmania is complex, with the world's biggest exposure of dolerite, a mafic subvolcanic rock similar to basalt .

Dolerite:

A major intrusion of dolerite occurred in the Jurassic. This was a widespread phenomena extending over one third of Tasmania, and possibly more in the past. This intrusion also affected Antarctica, Argentina and South Africa at c180 million years ago. Three to five million cubic kilometers of magma were intruded overall, being the planet's fourth largest known magma intrusion.

Tasmania has the largest exposure of dolerite in the world of 30000 km2 and a volume of 15000 km3. In Tasmania the rock is characteristic of many mountains with its columnar joining appearing in cliffed escarpments. The composition is 40% plagioclase, 20% clinopyroxene, 20% quartz, 5% ilmenite and small percentages of potassium feldspar and amphibole.

Most of the intrusions were in the form of sills up to 500 m thick. But there are also stepped sills, inclined sheets, cones and some dykes. On the Central Plateau mesa and peaks appear as remnants in places, and in other places the dolerite remains, extensively.

Glaciation:

While there has been glaciation of Tasmania for eons (having been connected to Antarctica), in the Permian for example, the present landscape displays aretes, cirques, extensive glaciated surfaces, glacial valleys, moraines and a diversity of lakes attributed to glacial sculpting. Late Pleistocene glaciation occurred in the Snowy Mountains as well as in the Tasmanian highlands. Glaciers were extensive in Tasmania where ice caps formed on the Central Plateau and West Coast Ranges, and systems of valley and cirque glaciers formed on surrounding mountains.

I believe that you are looking down on The Horseshoe bend of the Colorado River in Northern Arizona, from 30000 feet. Both the landscape and the river are extremely colorful in this area, and it was exciting to see from this point of view. After further review on google earth, I found that this is a subsequent loop in the river to the immediate southwest of Horseshoe bend.

This year, there are again huge flocks of cranes observable in the north and west of Germany. The biggest reported sighting I found was for over 30000 cranes in the north-east. I took the picture earlier this year on a field near Dresden, Germany - we typically only see small gatherings of 2-10 cranes even during migratory season, with a few exceptional places where you might be able to see a few hundred cranes at a time if you know where to look. We have a number of local breeding pairs in the area too. My favorite name for a group of cranes is the obvious „trumpeting of cranes“, but I find the proposal of „construction of cranes“ quite amusing too.

Burnley War Memorial is situated in Towneley Park, approximately 100 metres to the east of Towneley Hall. The memorial was unveiled by Lord Derby in 1926 in a ceremony attended by a crowd estimated at over 30000 people.

The Towneley Park war memorial is a Portland stone cenotaph which merges into carved busts of a soldier, airman and sailor. On each side are bronze female figures representing wives, sisters or mothers. There are also some interesting symbols used in the design such as the rosemary bush for remembrance and the cricket bat representing the men’s boyhood. In front of the memorial is a reflective pool surrounded by paving and grass.

The design was produced by Walter Henry Gilbert, the lesser known cousin of the famous sculptor Sir Alfred Gilbert. Gilbert said that he had endeavoured to conceive a memorial that shall breathe nothing of slaughter, but only of duty fulfilled and by fulfilment of duty, the comfort and thankfulness brought to those who remain (Link War Memorials Trust).

I always love to capture people immersed in Art. This young woman was enjoying the work Black Cloud by Carlos Amorales at QAGOMA’s Air exhibition. There are 30000 laser cut paper butterflies and moths in this room, amazing.

Dear all,

Let me introduce a fund raising project to you. This is a project that I launched on the 1st of April and it continues for 30 days. The project is called 30on30 and is aimed at raising at least 30000 rupees for an NGO (http://askindia.org/sankalp.html) that I have been associated with, for about 2 years now, through my photographs that are available for sale on www.30on30.net

Please do take out time to visit the project and the photographs @ www.30on30.net

Would really appreciate if you could spread the word around too if you like the thought behind the project.
