People wait, either for comet NEOWISE, or for the sun to set.
While waiting to photograph comet C/2020 F3 NEOWISE, I took some time to test out my gear on a sunset. The hill at the centre of McLennan Park, colloquially known as Mount Trashmore, is one of the higher points within the city of Kitchener's boundaries, and is a popular spot for people to watch the sunset.
Shot using a Pentax K-x body equipped with a Pentax S-M-C/Super Takumar 300 mm F4 M42 screw mount lens. Sturdied using a Manfrotto tripod. Lens aperture unrecorded.
Film!
So I've decided that I'm going to experiment more with film and see what I can cook up. It's gonna be fun :)

NGC 300 - Spiral Galaxy in Sculptor
NGC 300 is a beautify spiral galaxy in the constellation Sculptor. It is a popular target as it is one of the closest and most prominent spiral galaxies in the southern skies and bright enough to view easily through binoculars. With an apparent magnitude of 9.0, and an apparent size of 21’.9 X 15’.5 arcmin, it presents a reasonable size for imaging. To give some perspective or scale of this object, our moon is around 31’ arcmin across.
NGC 300 is approximately 6 million light-years away. It is the brightest of the five main spirals in the direction of the Sculptor Group. It is likely to be gravitationally bound to NGC 55 located in Sculptor, and they are slowly spinning around and toward each other, in the early stages of a lengthy merging process.
This is a Lum RGB image blended with Ha to highlight the star-forming areas present in the galaxy. I love the number of small galaxies scattered throughout the field.
I found this to be a difficult galaxy to process. Perhaps the most difficult component was the colours as they seem very subtle in the initial combination of the data. Another variable unexpected variable I had to deal with was replacing the main imaging camera with another. I was surprised at how different the resulting data streams were from each camera.
Calibrating the data, and the data rejection process where the extraneous signal is removed in each sub (bad columns, hot pixels, cosmic rays, vignetting) was a little challenging as I did not want to remove good data from the final compilation inadvertently.

Wow, we've made it to day 300. Well done everyone.
I apologise that I have been a bit lacking on commenting on your photos. I will try and catch up.
Thank you to everyone for the likes and comments on my photos.
Private Jet Embraer Phenom 300 which seats seven in very luxurious surroundings taxes out for departure from Prestwick airport in Ayrshire, Scotland.
RUPO is just a few miles out of Leeds Junction as they approach Blue Rock Rd. in Leeds, ME. With a dead 307 at Riley, the crew would swap 315 for 307 before departing Jay, leaving the two Guilford leaders to haul the 38x24 train to Portland. While it was unfortunate not to see the Guilford trio, a trio of 300's is something I am not going to complain about.
Still not feeling great today, but also didn't want to get any further behind with work, so decided to compromise and work half a day. Took the morning off sick again, then had a pretty productive afternoon, with a couple of useful meetings, as well as ticking a few things off my to do list. Luckily I'd got fairly well ahead before going off sick, so the backlog wasn't too disastrous.
Totally knackered by this evening!
Today I watched the sunset. I always do anyway - almost every single day the sun comes up, I tend to watch it set as well. But today was different, I watched it away from the perspective of camera holes, but with my own pair of eyes. Everyday the sun sets, bright yellow at first, and then it turns raging orange near the horizon. This kind of means that another day is ending, the Earth finished a rotation, men are finishing work, eager to go home to their families, babies are born, children grow another day, animals scatter back to their habitats, getting ready for the night. And somewhere, far, far, far away from us, a new universe is beginning.
