D260 and three unidentified BRCW type 2s stand at Haymarket depot in Edinburgh in early 1960.
The medium format negative film that I scanned this from had no details of location nor date. D260 commenced service in February 1960.
D260 was the first of the English Electric type 2s to be delivered to the Scottish Region, joining the class BRCW type 2s that had been delivered for Scottish use from April 1959.
Taken by an unknown photographer, now part of my collection.
A pair of SD40-2s wind through the valley near De Winton with train C17 in tow.
I'm a bit late to the party but I guess that the "red barns" are back. I'm still undecided as to whether or not I like these. CP's latest livery, especially while clean, looks good on anything. That said, I do quite like CMQ's paint scheme as well and I'm hoping that CP is slow to repaint the rest.
A trio of Florida East Coast GP40-2s lead 228 across the overshot San Sebastian River trestle during high tide. This was by far the best lash-up on this train in a good while. While I like the result here, I promised myself not to have leaves in the train but... I have leaves in the train. Oh well, still looks decent I think. St. Augustine, FL
The one of maybe (3?) remaining SOO LINE painted GP38-2s left on Canadian Pacific’s roster, is seen here working the west of Canadian Pacific’s Bensenville Yard on one of the many RCO jobs, with its mate CP 5107 (SD40-3). After dragging a long cut out of the bowl, they begin shoving back to kick more cars and dip under the UP Milwaukee Sub, as seen in the background. Taken: 7-18-23
The 4448 is equipped with RCO, so it’s chances of getting back on the main are slim to none, it’s definitely seen better days but at least we can still see SOO paint in 2023.
The Canadian Pacific westbound freight from Cranbrook to Nelson negotiates the curves around Moyie Lake near Moyie, British Columbia. Three CP Rail SD40-2s lead the train near sunset on this bright summer day of June 27, 2006.
Looks can be deceiving, what looks to be a trio of former SP SD40T-2s leading a coal train are actually manned rear helpers helping keep their 12,000 ton train in check as they head for Trona.
Both of Southern roots, a pair of Reading and Northern's GP38-2s sport different cabs in their fresh paint. 2013, their most recent active addition, idles at Port Clinton while 2011 works the YJPN job.
A pair of SD40-2s in the form of the Pikes Peak Local runs lite through Larkspur, CO after the second significant snowfall of the season.
No cars on this day's PPL, so I had to make due...which is pretty easy to do with this subject when the sun is out and the scene is covered in fresh snow!
South Shore's pair of ex-Iowa Interstate SD38-2's approach the Dearborn Ave crossing in Hammond, IN with the Belt Job, AF-4.

A Burlington Northern Santa Fe stack train is headed west at Summit, Montana, on December 23, 1998. The train is crossing Marias Pass powered by a pair of EMD SD40-2s, with Burlington Northern No. 7889 leading the way.
CN's White Pine Local works slowly east over the Presque Isle River trestle just east of Tula, MI on the beautiful morning of August 1, 2003. WC 2002 East has a short train boxcars for the copper refinery at White Pine. We're into the second year of CN ownership of the WC lines in the U.P., but so far pretty much everything looked and felt the same.
The White Pine Local would run east three days a week out of North Ironwood, MI and would be the perfect target on the way over from the Twin Ports on the deadhead to the Upper Peninsula to railfan the E&LS, LS&I, or WC/CN.
The Mellenheads that ran this line in late-WC and early-CN were some of the friendliest railroaders I even encountered. They were always helpful with intel and offered numerous cab rides. Not sure it was more the all-day 10 MPH or my preference for photos, but I never took them up on the latter.
During this time, the ex-Algoma Central GP38-2s were common on the former WC lines and they looked great with their relatively recent maroon paint applied.
All good things come to an end. The ex-AC 2000s were eventually banished to Canada and this ex-DSS&A line would see its last train east of Marengo Jct. in 2010. The ex-Soo line that it connected with hasn't fared much better. Good memories though of these photos and also of the friendly railroaders that ran these trains.
A quartet of Portland & Western GP39-2s pass a Santa Fe brethren that is now on the BNSF roster. The P&W units are headed for the yard in Vancouver, where they'll pick up outbound traffic from BNSF.

BTW. Whilst I've cropped it down top and bottom, there's no crop at the sides - I just got lucky and managed not to slice the nose or tail off as she sped by. However, I'd liked to have had a bit more space on her nose which makes it easier on the 'eye' as there is 'somewhere' for the subject to go to.

NS B09 brings steel coil empties past the abandoned freight depot next to Union Station in Gary, Indiana behind the usual pair of SD40-2s.

A pair of Grand Trunk GP38-2s meet CN 3008, the Illinois Central heritage unit, at the Mundelein Metra station back in August. The two geeps, which were running light along with a few other units, had to wait for the 3008 to pass before proceeding north to Fond du Lac.
