Washington DC, March 24, 2018. A massive crowd here for the March for Our Lives Protest against the NRA and the absence of common sense gun laws in our country. These examples are 100% (1:1) crops of a six megapixel image from my Nikon D50.
ISO was 800, to allow a fast enough shutter speed for practical hand-holding.
The lens was a Samyang 500mm F/8 preset type. This is a refractor lens, not a mirror lens.
This seems to be the toughest test for a lens, regarding CA- a high contrast edge.
The image at the left was as-is, from the camera. Lots of nasty CA.
The middle image was edited with the just-released version Of Nikon ViewNX 2. This new version has still and video editing built in, lessening the need to buy Nikon Capture. I enabled "Auto Lateral Color Aberration", as well as "Axial Color Aberration". Only the axial setting has an adjustment. This middle image was with the default setting of 50. As you can see, there is a useful improvement, but I wanted more.
This right image was with the maximum setting of 100. Quite an improvement! And I see little if any loss of detail, at least in this example.
Try it out, Nikon people, and see if that cheap and/or old lens with loads of CA can be tamed.
