I had an opportunity yesterday to run a roll of the new Ferrania Orto 50 film, in 35mm size. I exposed the roll at 25ASA and bracketed. It was developed in Thornton 2Bath developer, 4.5 minutes in each bath. I chose this since Thornton was one of the recommended developers by Ferrania themselves, and knowing how contrasty these slow ortho films tend to be, I wanted to tame the contrast right out of the gate. These negs are really great - good contrast but plenty of tonal range and a really interesting look.

1957 Soviet Zorki 4 with 1952 Leitz Summicron 2/50mm collapsible on Fomapan 100 in Barry Thornton's two bath developer (3 mins each bath). Yellow Filter.

I mixed up a batch of Barry Thornton's two bath developer from scratch in an attempt to get consistent development results. I've been unhappy recently with my Rodinal results--too varied due to my inability to properly control temperature or something.

I found a partial roll sitting in the Zorki and couldn't remember what was on it. That seemed like a good thing to test on since I obviously wasn't attached to the photos. I snipped the roll in a changing bag and loaded the exposed part of the roll (rest went back in the camera). This was from my barn series a couple of months ago. I'm super happy with the developer so far!! I did get a little streaking that I'll have to work out, but overall it worked great.
