Colas’ 70815 crosses the Vale of Glamorgan Railway’s Porthkerry Viaduct while working an empty coal train from Aberthaw back to Avonmouth Docks.
Opened in 1897, the Vale of Glamorgan route was created to allow coal traffic from west Wales to be exported through Barry Docks. Within 10 years Barry Docks was the busiest coal port in the world, being fed primarily via the Vale of Glamorgan route.
The opening of the Aberthaw power stations to the west of Porthkerry in 1963 started a high volume flow of coal along the line in the opposite direction.
Coal exports from Barry ceased in 1976, and Aberthaw power station was downgraded to burn coal ‘as required’. After burning no coal from April to August 2017, Aberthaw began taking imported coal from Avonmouth which continued until February 2018.

Duck Landing. Not far from Knots Landing. I took a sequence of 24 shots, all within just over 3 seconds. These are four that I liked, shot within less than 2 seconds. Within 2 seconds, you can really have completely different looks, both in the duck's positioning, and the looks of the background/water colors and reflections.
