Merlion - ein aus den englischen Worten mermaid (Meerjungfrau) und lion (Löwe) zusammensetztes Kunstwort für den Schutzpatron der Stadt - bezeichnet ein Fabelwesen aus Löwe und Fisch. Der Löwenkopf symbolisiert Stärke und Furchtlosigkeit, der Fischkörper den Ursprung aus und die Verbundenheit mit dem Meer.
Die Figur des Merlion wurde 1964 von Fraser Brunner im Auftrag der Tourismuskommission von Singapur als Logo für die Stadt entwickelt und spielt auf die Legende der Stadtgründung an. Die Originalstatue steht heute an der Mündung des Singapore Rivers, eine 37 m hohe, begehbare Nachbildung ist eine der Attraktionen auf der Freizeitinsel Sentosa.
Die Statue wurde am 28. Februar 2009 um etwa 4:30 Uhr morgens durch einen Blitzschlag am Kopf sowie durch herabfallende Teile an der Basis beschädigt und umgehend repariert.

A play on words between graphic and graffiti, the title sums up the image pretty well, I think. Such scenes lend themselves perfectly to the rendering of Fantome, in my opinion, and I'll have to make sure to explore them more often now that the sun is hanging lower in the sky.

La serie 289 (8900 según la antigua numeración de Renfe) es una serie de locomotoras eléctricas de fabricación japonesa, similar a la serie 279 de Renfe en cuanto estructura aunque algo posterior y con más potencia. Ambas series sirvieron para cubrir el problema de la coexistencia de líneas de 1.500 V c.c. y líneas de 3.000 V c.c. ya que en aquel entonces cada zona del país tenía una electrificación era diferente. Esta serie era una locomotora bitensión, en ocasiones denominada como locomotora universal por esa capacidad de poder circular en cualquier línea electrificada de Renfe.
