Quilt Garden Kickoff & Bicentennial Quilt on Display May 27 thru May 31, 2016. The Elkhart County Historical Museum held a party on Thursday, May 27, 2016 to show off the newly planted Quilt Garden and the Indiana Bicentennial Barn Quilt on display at the Museum thru May 31, 2016.The Museum’s quilt garden is created by a partnership of museum staff and dedicated Indiana Master Gardeners volunteers who helped choose the pattern, and who weed and water the flowers. For 2016, the quilt garden features a 1914 duck paddle pattern also known as goose tracks and fanny’s fan. It uses Pink Supertunias, Blue Ageratums, Green Coleus and White Begonias. Sonia from the Elkhart County Visitors’ Bureau came to the Bristol Town May meeting to talk about the success of the Quilt Gardens. The Indiana Bicentennial Barn Quilt is on a statewide tour and sponsored by the Indiana Barn Foundation, Indiana State Quilt Guild and Indiana Landmarks. The quilt has 92 squares that feature a barn from each of the 92 counties. Each square was made by a Guild member. Finishing touches were done by Ruby Borkholder of Bremen. When the quilt leaves the museum, it will tour across the state and return for the Elkhart County Fair and be actioned on March 4, 2017 with proceeds to the Indiana Barn Foundation.
